The China virus outbreak continues to spread, with the first confirmed case in Australia and over 1,200 coronavirus cases in China. Get the latest in our LIVE CHINA VIRUS COVERAGE.

The virus, the Novel Coronavirus, began infecting people in Wuhan, China in December. There are now 1,307 cases worldwide and 41 dead. (1,287 of the cases are in China.) Numerous Chinese cities with a total population of over 30 million people are under full or partial lockdowns to help stop the spread of the virus. The first China virus case has been confirmed in Australia, and there are now two cases in the US and three in France

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

The problem is we have no idea what the real numbers are. Considering all that they’re suddenly doing in China - - cities of millions locked down - - I have a feeling they’re much higher than they’re saying.

Actually the flu has an average mortality of less than one tenth of one percent.

Yes, he’s been covering this around the clock. Getting very little sleep, I’m sure.

That’s a percent of all deaths.

Not a percent of people who contracted the flu.

I’m not referring to the number who have died. I’m referring to the number of cases reported so far. I don’t think we’ve been told the truth about any of it by China and neither do many others. You don’t shut down huge cities over a few cases of a virus.

The # is fluid. it’s going up every hour...and more countries having confirmed cases to report. They just kept the country [China] open to travel WAY too long before reacting.

You’re right, looks like about 26.4 million people in the USA have the flu at any given time in the Winter. So like maybe .0076% die from it per week? Lots of math, and unreliable #’s due to “unreported” flu cases...not everyone goes to the doctor/hospital for it...leading to “guesstimates”.

Not everyone has been hospitalized with the flu.

Most people self treat the flu at home.

Only a small fraction of people who contract the flu end up in a hospital.
