If you’re referring to the Spanish Flu, that wasn’t 1914.
It was the 1918 pandemic.

It was the 1918 pandemic.

Which was a result of soldiers returning home after WWI.

My great-grandmother and her cousin were the only 2 people to survive in a household affected by the Spanish Flu. Apparently, back then, they had the strange idea that despite the fact that people who were sick were thirsty as could be, that giving them water was a bad idea. So, they had a pact. If one of them got sick, the other would sneak them water. Her cousin got sick, and she snuck in to her room and gave her water, and then snuck out 3-4 times a day. She stayed very hydrated and didn’t get sick, and her cousin got better. Everyone else in the house died.
