The challenge is becoming increasingly clear for House Democrats prosecuting President Donald Trump’s impeachment case as the Senate convenes for a second day of arguments in the landmark trial.
No matter how overwhelming the evidence confronting Trump, it becomes less compelling when presented again and again, day after day, as Democrats try to convince not just fidgety senators but an American public deeply divided over the Republican president in an election year.
The team led by Rep. Adam Schiff, the chairman of House Intelligence Committee, constructed a gripping account of Trump’s political pressure on Ukraine and attempt to cover up the “corrupt scheme” central to the charges. But the limits are apparent. Prosecutors must rely on the same loops of videotaped testimony — ambassadors, national security officials and even the president himself — after Trump’s GOP Senate allies blocked new witnesses.
Democrats were once reluctant to take on impeachment during an election year but are marching toward a decision by the Senate that the American public also will judge.
Some Republicans expressed disdain for it all. Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa spoke sarcastically about how excited she was to hear the “overwhelming evidence” the House Democrats promised against Trump.
“And once we’ve heard that overwhelming evidence,” she said, raising her voice mockingly, “I don’t know that we’ll need to see additional witnesses, but let’s hear about that overwhelming evidence.”

There is no overwhelming evidence and this sham only reinforces that. This is going to be trouble for the Democrats and at the end people will be calling for their heads.
They're playing Hillary's game: playing to their donor base, giving them a thrill to get donations.
They fail to realize the rest of us are paying attention.
Meanwhile Trump is waging war against Deep State.

Indeed, and the fact that the senators didn't dismiss after day one dirties the fine legacy of the Senate and contributes to future farcical impeachments.
What could be less compelling then being told again and again that Trump is guilty because “We know what he was thinking”?
Quite honestly I do not know how the senators can sit hours on end forced to listen to the drivel coming from the podium. It reminds me of going to DMV traffic school and being lectured for the day on driving safety to get a traffic ticket dismissed. I guess that’s why they invented No Doz.

The more compelling the evidence, the more it speaks for itself. The less compelling the evidence, the more it needs people to speak for it. The more they speak, the less convinced people will be. I say speak on, Schiffty!

Plus, NO ONE is watching. It’s a bad rerun of a boring Schiff show.
I think even the rabid anti-Trump partisans at the AP and other media outlets are genuinely shocked at how much stronger and more assertive President Trump has gotten since this impeachment charade began last year.
Maybe they can have Schiff give some of that “gripping” to Pelosi.
Stupid, AP. There is no “overwhelming evidence”. In fact, there is no crime. What a ridiculous charade this impeachment is. Absolutely disgusting and sickening.

But they are all 21 years old. When you have three of them write an article, you have a combined 63 years of experience like you got in the old days with one grizzled, seen-it-all reporter.
