The elimination of firearms will not make the world a more peaceful, less violent place. Quite the contrary! Those persons who would seek to intimidate or to physically harm or kill another person (whether driven by greed, lust, jealousy, hate, zealotry or mental illness) will still do so. But the tools they employ (be they blades or sticks, hands or fists or whatever) will require a degree of physical size and strength to be wielded as weapons and a degree of physical size and strength to defend against.
Until the advent of firearms, the advantage in combat always went to the bigger and stronger, with the smaller and weaker always at a disadvantage. The invention of firearms was a watershed moment in human history because it changed this equation, and put the smaller and weaker (and that includes the frail and the elderly!) on equal footing, no longer at the mercy of those who happened to be bigger and stronger.

The ET’s would move in and we’d be their meals
if every gun on Earth would disappear there would still be killings
But the tools they employ (be they blades or sticks, hands or fists or whatever) will require a degree of physical size and strength to be wielded as weapons and a degree of physical size and strength to defend against. This is true and what makes a lot of tv series so annoying that show thin women absurdly overwhelming big Roman soldiers with heavy swords as if it was nothing…
Did Cain kill Able with an AR?
If every gun in the world disappeared tomorrow, by the end of the day there would be untold numbers of people building crude guns at home, casting lead into bullets and mixing charcoal, saltpeter and sulfur into black powder.
Basic firearms technology is hundreds of years old. Unless you wipe out the knowledge (which is impossible), crude guns would reappear in no time. Its like asking what if all wheels disappeared tomorrow.....would people never build or use wheels again ?
The world was not a peaceful place prior to the invention of firearms. Quite the contrary.
Two points the article was absolutely correct about:
1) firearms are the great equalizer. Women and the injured, the sick and the elderly are perfectly capable of defending themselves even if their assailant is an NFL Linebacker so long as they have a gun.
2) The lunatics bent on mass murder and the criminals are simply going to ignore gun laws like they ignore other laws (like laws against murder for example). Right now a balance exists. The criminals and the lunatics can not know if their intended victim might pull out a gun and blow them away if they attack that person. With strict gun control laws, they can attack their intended victim with the peace of mind that comes from knowing the victim cannot defend him/her self. ie the only people gun control laws will disarm are the law abiding - the very people we should not want to be disarmed.
And the article did not even mention the reason why the Founding Fathers included the 2nd Amendment in the Bill of Rights. That is to serve as a deterrent to tyrannical government. Just ask the Iranians or the Venezuelans or the Hong Kongers how useful it would be if only the oppressive governments in those places did not have a monopoly on guns and therefore had to curb their oppressive impulses.

“Lord of the Flies” -a how to manual for this scenario...
You could kill someone with a paper clip. People who want to kill will find a way to kill.
Ever so true.
I tell gun control nuts that all the time.
Before guns became common, ten well trained men with swords could kill hundreds or thousands.
With guns, ten well trained men can defend against hundreds or thousands.
If every gun on earth disappeared someone, or many someones, would invent guns. Someone else, or many someones, would sell them like hotcakes.
If government banned the creation of propellants used to project objects, cars would be banned. That would lead to the invention of cars.
Statistically I have a better chance of protecting myself with a gun than of being harmed or harming an innocent by carrying a gun.
I once saw him kill three men in a bar... with a pencil, with a ****ing pencil.
Londonistan would still be a 21st Century S-hole.
I’d find way to carry my trebuchet
The Michael Browns for the world would have a definite advantage...
