If Students Are Borrowing Less, Why Do They Owe More? The growth in college debt continues unabated because borrowers are not paying down their balances, often intentionally.

of course they are not paying down their balances - democrats are all running around telling everyone they are going simply cancel all student debt when they get elected - why *would* anyone who believed that waste money paying their loans.

Can’t read the article because it’s behind a paywall.

My guess is that borrowers are waiting for a Socialist president to wipe out their college debt.

The shock will be when they are “asked” to start repaying their loans, to the govt in order to fund the Single Payer Health care they all want.

I have three boys with college debt, the one who is grad school (paid for by an internship) has been paying down his undergrad debt furiously; the second is a junior and has very little debt and is financially frugal and will do same when graduates, and third is a freshman with just a tiny bit but paying the interest as he goes to save money long term. They all know I’d kick their butts if they didn’t. We’ve always talked about being responsible for the debts you incur. And they’ve all held job since they were 15. You know. Good kids who make Mom and Dad proud.

“Screw Bloomberg, they’re not getting a click from me”

For the past 10 years if the source link says “AP”, ‘CNN” ...i DO NOT click on it .

I just read the summary

Unfortunately, “genius” Freepers keep clicking on the MSM enemy links AND they keep bitching about how they hate the media when they click on links and give them web traffic...ironic isn’t it?

I guess they are hoping that the gummint will step in if enough of them don’t pay. They are probably right.

Because some people here bitch at people for “Did you even read the article?” My feeling is that is why you get an opportunity to comment when OP. It’s your job to tell us if there is a nugget. You were to lazy to share.

Why pay down your balance when it’s increasingly clear that sometime in the next decade you are going to accumulate enough electoral power to vote yourself loan forgiveness?

Today’s generation are a bunch of weak-ass limp-wristed soyboys. I’ve posted multiple times I paid mine in 3 years. Ever heard of part-time jobs to supplement?

Get DJT involved and let’s make a deal.

universities must be pressured to write off substantial portions of debt.

Those debts that are now owned by banks and financial institutions also take a bit of the hit.

Student borrowers finish pay off the substantially reduced balance.

I suspect students have been ripped off by Universities, lenders, and the govt.

If you have a Stafford loan, then the college was already paid.

My proposal is to give these debtors a window of time to convert their student loans into mortgages on foreclosed homes in areas with high foreclosure rates.

I’ve never had any student debt. That’s a huge upside of getting married and having kids instead of going to college for four to eight years, working twenty years to pay off debt and then working twenty more to pay down a house before thinking about having a family.

$100 manicures a couple times a month, get the car “detailed” for $150 every month or two (to make it appear that you are taking care of the car, since the payments are $500/month), special hair “highlights” that have to be touched up often, psychologists for their pets, botox, multiple gym memberships... you name it. There are MANY things that many young adults feel are critical in their lives.

I am pretty sure the colleges got all of their money.

Ever since 0bama took over the student loan “business” from banks, it is we taxpayers, who are owed the money.

He set it up nicely for a future socialist to “forgive” the loans, using our money.
