A federal judge in Maryland has blocked the Trump administration's executive order allowing state and local governments to turn away refugees from resettling in their communities.
In September, President Trump announced that groups that help refugees find places to live must first get written consent from local and state jurisdictions before resettling them.
Immigration advocates challenged the executive order in federal court, calling it cruel and shortsighted.
U.S. District Judge Peter Messitte said the executive order "does not appear to serve the overall public interest."
In his 31-page opinion issued Wednesday, he wrote that the order gives states and local governments "the power to veto where refugees may be resettled in the face of clear statutory text and structure, purpose Congressional intent, executive practice, judicial holdings and Congressional doctrine to the contrary."
Messitte's ruling is a preliminary injunction, putting on hold enforcement of Trump's refugee resettlement order.
The White House press office released a statement that said, "This is a preposterous ruling, one more example of nationwide district court injunctions run amok, and we are expeditiously reviewing all options to protect our communities and preserve the integrity of the refugee resettlement process..."

And the beat goes on.
He's the one who denied President Trump's motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by Maryland and the District of Columbia for his alleged violation of the emoluments clauses of the U.S. Constitution, and then got smacked down hard by his own Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
The black robes learn how to be gods during their three years of law school.
I guess the District court judges in San Francisco and Honolulu must have had the day off. Nice to see there are back up hacks available as needed
But local governments can declare sanctuary cities and defy federal law a will.
These people are joke to put it mildly.
I predict that The Supreme Court Banhammer is coming down on these perfumed little bench princes & princesses after the “two scoops Peach Mint” goes away, and President Trump gets re-elected this fall.
So the opinion of one piny judge as to what servws the public interest outweighs that of tens of millions of citizens?
This has got to stop.
Another temporary stumbling block!
For now, but not forever.
On July 10, 2019, The United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit overruled Judge Messitte, expressly finding he abused his discretion for refusing to certify an interlocutory appeal and further finding the plaintiffs lacked standing to pursue the underlying case.
The Court noted "Neither [Emoluments (foreign and domestic)] Clause expressly confers any rights on any person, nor does either Clause specify any remedy for a violation."
Justice Clarence Thomas has stated he doesn’t think the judges rulings should have any effect outside their own jurisdiction. Take this to the USSC.
“...clear statutory text and structure, purpose Congressional intent, executive practice, judicial holdings and Congressional doctrine to the contrary.”
Yeah, you’ve gotta really watch out for “purpose Congressional intent” while quoting “executive practice” to disallow executive practice. And that Congressional doctrine will surely get you!
The Executive Branch is neutralized by the other two branches. Is that how it works now?
Uh, old news. 5 days old.
That’s not a Constitutionally-valid reason to block an Executive Order. The ruling will easily be overturned.
State and local government should be able to do whatever they want as long as it doesn’t conflict with the federal constitution.
Ok, post the link to your FR article on this, Mittbag.
Another 80 year old Democrat Fascist Party Judge desperate to get his names in the History books before he croaks
Some of us who read outside the bubble have read this story repeatedly over the last five days.
Now if you ONLY get your news inside the bubble you are guaranteed to be as ill informed as you apparently are. And then I guess you can wait for some poor soul to post five days old news, lest you never find out about anything going on the world.

You’re not really lookin’ all that good in this exchange. Just sayin’.
