Lincoln’s birthday was never a national holiday. Washington’s still is. I know many now call it Presidents’ Day, but I believe it is still officially Washington’s Birthday.

Exactly. If the two Kennedys were not assassinated, there would be no streets named after them. Nor would we have Martin Luther King Boulevards running through the high crime areas of every major city due to MLK being shot.

Uh there used to be Federal Holidays for both Lincoln and Washington’s birthdays. I went to military schools and we always had both off until some moron decided we needed to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Washington and Lincoln were combined into Presidents’ Day.

No, Lincoln’s birthday never made it to Federal holiday status. Most states made his birthday a holiday, but for some reason Representatives and Senators from the South—all democrats—were reluctant to extend the honor to him.

The February holiday is still Washington’s Birthday, although it is often incorrectly labeled President’s Day. You can check this for yourself:
