The Convenience of Media Outrage and Hysteria

What will the mainstream media breathlessly report today? Will the daily hysterics be over Iran? How about how the Senate treats impeachment? Are left-wing activists going to protest the weather? Or, is there going to be a meltdown over a tweet? Does it matter? Actually, no. Few people genuinely care about what the left-wing media is hyperventilating over today. The reason is that no one cares anymore. After almost four years of palpitations, it is evident that the legacy media reports hysteria – not the news.

As a young boy, my dad told me a story called "The Boy Who Cried Wolf." In short, the boy whipped himself into a frenzy and yelled to the town that a wolf was coming to eat him, but it was untrue. He did this several times, fooling the ones coming to save him. Eventually, their gracious nature expired. One day, a wolf came out of the hillside. When it was chasing after the boy, he screamed for help, but no one came, and he was devoured. In the end, his false hysteria killed him.

The mainstream media is no different. Daily, the left-wing press gets worked into a frenzy about something President Trump has done or could potentially do. The most recent episode has been about the Iran attack. CNN and MSNBC, along with the other three major news networks declared (almost verbatim from channel-to-channel) that Trump had begun World War Three by killing Iranian Quds Force General Qassem Soleimani in a surgical drone strike. Conveniently, the talking heads ignored the fact that Soleimani was responsible for an attack on our embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, and he was a legitimately evil person accountable for hundreds of injuries and deaths to our military. They put hatred for Trump above the truth.

Instead of admitting that Trump may have done something right, the antics and outrage began.

The mainstream media have weaponized outrage and hysteria in an attempt to influence minds.

If time passes, and there have been no significant actions taken by Trump, then the media scrolls through his Twitter timeline to find something to be outraged over.

Four years ago, the media was silent when it came to former President Barack Obama's scandals

There is no secret that the media is on the side of the Democrats. When Obama was in office, pushback against the president would cause the media to become outraged, and they would attack the opposition.

Fast and Furious was a gun-running scandal where the Obama Administration used American arms dealers and straw purchasers to buy firearms then trafficked them south of the border to Mexico. The point of the operation was to track them so that the guns lead to high-value cartel members. Instead, the weapons were used, creating a high body count and eventually kill the United States Border Patrol, Agent Brian Terry. The leftist media was more outraged about Obama's first Attorney General Eric Holder being held in contempt for refusing to cooperate with Congress' investigation of Fast and Furious than the botched gun-running scandal that led to the death of an American.

There was more misdirected media outrage when the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was attacked just before Obama's reelection in 2012. The Republican's highlighted the fact that this was a terror attack since it happened on sovereign United States soil, which is what our embassies and consulates are. The media became hysteric, echoing Obama and then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's words that this was "just a protest turned violent" not terrorism. It was apparent they were protecting Obama's chances for a second term.

Where was the establishment media when the Hillary Clinton email server came to light? Answer: too busy trying to protect her. Clinton was supposed to be the next president of the United States. The media could not let her lose to then-candidate Donald Trump. Instead, anger was pointed towards Trump, even though Clinton was funneling government emails through an unsecured server.

The legacy media has become one of the most disingenuous organizations in America today. The First Amendment is so that journalists could expose and hopefully halt any government corruption or wrongdoing. All of our election and appointed officials must have a watchdog. However, over time, establishment news has lost its way. Now, they have turned into partisans with no credibility. Trump has rightfully exposed them as "fake news."

Hysteria and outrage have become the legacy media's preferred weapon of choice against the right.

They have been partisans for at least 50 years, probably longer.

The networks were significantly Progressive partisans back to when FDR used the new FCC to make sure the radio networks were on his side.

It is very aggravating to me (and I don’t think I am the only one) that an otherwise intelligent column such as this is tainted by numerous errors in grammar, spelling, and punctuation. I think that for a significant portion of the readers, it detracts from the author’s credibility.

Blogging without proofreading has depreciated the writing in this country.

TRAINS magazine (to which I subscribe) seems to have cut proofreaders from its own budget, in its print edition and on its website news wire.
