Federal authorities are turning to a new tactic in the escalating conflict over New York Citys so-called sanctuary policies, issuing four immigration subpoenas to the city for information about inmates wanted for deportation.
This is not a request its a demand, Henry Lucero, a senior U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement official, told The Associated Press. This is a last resort for us. Dangerous criminals are being released every single day in New York. [ ]
The development comes days after ICE sent similar subpoenas to the city of Denver, a move that reflected the agencys mounting frustration with jurisdictions that do not honor deportation detainers or provide any details about defendants going in and out of local custody.
The subpoenas sent to New York seek information about three inmates including a man wanted for homicide in El Salvador who were recently released despite immigration officials requesting the city turn them over for deportation.
The fourth subpoena asks for information about a Guyanese man charged this month with sexually assaulting and killing Maria Fuertas, a 92-year-old Queens woman.

Three years in and they’re finally getting serious about The Resistance.
Dems sell this crap to the public as "breaking up families" and pretend they're being arrested for extremely minor things, and in reality they're shielding some pretty terrible people. I can't imagine the general public, not even in California and New York City, would actually support this.
Hold NYC liable for any damages and withhold federal funds.
This is what Patterns and Practices lawsuits are designed for. If a cop uses excessive force DOJ demands a consent decree or a ruinous lawsuit and federal prosecutions.
Cities need to face these same processes for violating the rights of good citizens.
Arrest Deblasio and Cuomo.
Imprison the mayor pending trial, in 6 months, without bail, and the city will be more forthcoming.
That’s why we need the popular vote. So that this type of New York and LA mentality can run the country. (Do I really need the /sarc)
So I’m guessing the subpoenas request information on who authorized the release of the inmates.
The feds will then use this information to file federal charges against the people refusing to comply.
In New York’s case - there’s a good chance they wouldn’t miss their mayor.
Arrest any Colorado or New York City/State official who refuses to honor the “immigration subpoenas”, starting with governors, State’s Attorney Generals, local DAs, Mayor, Police & Corrections officials, etc.
Let them have an arrest record. In normal cities that would be a career-ender but in Denver and NYC, it might be a career-enhancer.
Screw them. They are aiding and abetting future crimes by known and convicted felons. Can be charged as accessories before the fact esp. if they know that the prisoners have serious criminal records, esp. those with crimes of violence.
To NYC and Denver, “ICE, ICE, BABY”. Go to jail, directly to jail, do not collect $200 or your paycheck/future pension.
Can anyway explain to me any LEGAL reason why Mayors of sanctuary cities and Governors of sanctuary states are not arrested?
Yup. Im surprised blue hasnt eliminated that creep.
The fourth subpoena asks for information about a Guyanese man charged this month with sexually assaulting and killing Maria Fuertas, a 92-year-old Queens woman.
Turn ‘em over Deblasio.
In the words of a VERY senior statesman:
“What the hell do you have to lose?”
These illegal aider and abetters need to be brought down and brought down hard.
Can't turn them over. They are released and have flown to the wind
We needed to get federal judges in place, else nothing would ever get accomplished
Second term will be more effective, I think
I can not wait for Trump’s second term. He’ll bang heads so hard they will rue the day they were born.
