'People will sit at home': Sanders supporters threaten to boycott election if Democrats pick Biden

Bernie Sanders supporters are warning that a lack of enthusiasm for Joe Biden could bring about the same result that nominating another establishment Democrat did four years ago: electing Donald Trump.

Sanders backers fret the socialist Vermont senator, 78, is being consistently ignored and underestimated by Beltway insiders and a Washington-based press corps — the same bunch, in their view, who failed to predict Trump's 2016 White House win and were sure Hillary Clinton, who beat Sanders for the Democratic nomination, would easily prevail.

They're particularly steamed Sanders, a socialist who has been in Congress since 1991, isn't getting his due though he's proven to have staying power in public opinion and fundraising, even after suffering a heart attack last October. As of last week, he leads a tight four-horse race in Iowa ahead of the first-in-the-nation caucuses on Feb. 3, raising a record figure of $34.5 million in the final financial quarter of 2019 for a total of $96 million.

Nominating a career center-left candidate such as Biden, the former vice president and 36-year Delaware senator, would dampen enthusiasm by the liberal populist grassroots, Sanders backers contend.

C’mon Bernie...man up. If you don’t get the nomination go 3rd Party. You’d easily get on the ballot in all 50 states...and DC.

I’m grateful for your kindness.

Reminding myself the Lord God is Just no matter what happens is something I do a lot.

I happen to be a tad biased for America’s survival as a Christian country, so I tend to go off the reservation every now and then...

Naw, you say? LOLing at myself. LOL

2016 election results. The following states were carried by Hillary with 10 percent or less victory margin
CO 9 2.8%
ME 4 2.7% — Trump won one EV here so really only 3
MN 10 1.5%
NV 6 2.4%
NH 4 0.4%
VA 13 4.9%
Grabbing just the ones with a less than 5% Hillary margin of victory would get him 45 more EV. However, I consider it unlikely that he could win VA because his policies are hurting the beltway class

NM 5 8.3% — I think with the right message Trump can win NM
OR 7 10.3%

NM is having an economic boom with all the fracing revenue. Funny thing is they elected this whack job governor. I think Trump can win NM by going with a simple message Frac now, Frac often, Frac forever, pledge to fight the local government in favor of the people. That said I think he can’t win VA, could win NM, OR may be just out of reach. I see his final EV vote total as
CO 9
ME 3
MN 10
NV 6
NH 4
NM 5
37 additional EV

It’s going to be really hard from here on out to hold my nose and vote for any ‘establishment’ GOPer.

I did it for McCain but not Romney. At the point of a gun, I couldn’t have been persuaded to vote for him.

There really is zero chance of them staying home because Bernie or a proxy will run whether he is the nominee or not.

Bernie Sanders stands to potentially equal the establishment Democrats if he runs, setting up a successor to eclipse them. Their best Avenue is to make him their nominee and then damage his movement by arranging a crushing defeat since they are going to lose anyway.

The democrats are (again) playing games to prevent him from being the nominee and his voters will be upset again.

Why would you assume Bernie spells certain defeat in the general?

He is an avowed socialist. While I am often skeptical of polling on a nationwide basis there is a pronounced disapproval of “socialism” among voters - even a large percentage of registered democrats.

90% of his support comes from dark blue cities and urban areas. Thanks to our “republic” and the electoral college it would be extraordinarily difficult for him to win a national election. He has rabid support by a slice of the democrat party but most voters outside of the urban bubble know little about him.

Put simply, he is a very poor nationwide candidate and the DNC knows this. It is part of the reason that most of the democrat elite oppose him strongly. Furthermore, the DNC relies far more heavily on corporate and billionaire money than the GOP. Will they donate to a party that is demonizing them every day on the campaign trail? Sure, some will donate, but many will not and have even said they would not.

Bernie voters should sit out the election if he does not win. What a great idea!

Wisconsin loved the Romney/Paul Ryan ticket - but now we know what a couple of SKUNKS they both are!

This would be the best play for them in a normal election. However, Trump is a very abnormal candidate and President in that he is garnering support from the opposite party. Also consider the level of hatred and opposition to Trump.

The DNC needs to hold the house and they see a path for them to take the Senate. This is part of why they are going through the impeachment circus to target specific Senators.

A weak nominee will obviously hurt them down the ballot.

Impeachment was a big gamble for them. Prior to them doing it I did not believe that the GOP could take back the house, but I believe the longer they continue this circus the more probable it is that Pelosi may not be the speaker. For once, the GOP appears to be very organized with a good ground game and a smart strategy. Trump is a big help also as he solidifies the base and will campaign for house candidates where it will help pulling some democrats over as we have seen.

Bloomberg is the Ross Perot of 2020.

I didn’t agree with the Perot voters because I knew they were handing the election to Clinton and I could see what Clinton was even before he became President.

But I did recognize the passion of the Perot voters. They were misguided, but passionate.

Can anyone, anywhere imagine, in their wildest fantasies of otherworldly dreaming that there exists some human being somewhere, in some city, in some town, in some place anywhere, who is PASSIONATE about Bloomberg?

If that person exists, I think they should be studied. In a mental institution. But that’s not a threatening statement, because I’m sure that person does not exist. Anywhere. Not even in Bloomberg’s family.

He could legitimately win the nomination, which spells certain defeat in the general. The democrats are (again) playing games to prevent him from being the nominee and his voters will be upset again.

The definition of being between a rock and a hard place.

I don’t think them staying home is going to make a difference, trump will win in a landslide either way
