No Judges Confirmed This Week

Posted on 01/18/2020 4:23:07 AM PST by cotton1706

This will be a weekly post.

Count remains at 185 judges confirmed.

133 District Court judges

50 Circuit Court judges

2 Supreme Court justices

Senate impeachment trial for the next week or three so no judges will be confirmed.

However, (hat tip to Freeper House Atreides!) the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday held hearings on 11 judges (1 Circuit, 7 District, 2 Federal Claims, 1 International Claims). So these should be voted to the floor as soon as they're free and able.

Also, Halil "Sul" Ozerden, nominee in the last session to the 5th Circuit vacancy, was quietly not renominated this session. He will continue as a district judge so no harm, no foul. The 5th vacancy will now likely get a more solid nominee and Mick Mulvaney doesn't get his crony elevated.

Most likely none to be appointed while this fake impeachment is in progress.

“Halil “Sul” Ozerden, nominee in the last session to the 5th Circuit vacancy, was quietly not renominated this session.”

That’s good to hear.

This whole impeachment nonsense is a diversion to distract the senate from the confirmation of judges.

Another aspect of this shameful process.

Yes, this is excellent. Ozerden was one of the few Trump judicial nominees I did not like. Circuit Court judgeships are too important to waste. Now replace him with a federalist society nominee and ram them through ASAP.

Ironically, because the House was so busy with impeachment, the Senate had little to do except approve judges the past three years. Should have done more, though.

Couldn’t the Senate(as they are salaried employees) just hold hearings and vote after the “Trial”?

Every salaried employee I knew, many times skipped out early; still had to stay late occasionally to make sure their job was done.
