Gettysburg Reenactment organizer Dustin Heisey wants everyone to know he isn't interested in the politics surrounding Glenn Beck's visit to Gettysburg.
He also wants everyone to understand, he isn't giving up on organizing the reenactment either, despite canceling it this year in light of the Beck event.
“I think the biggest thing is that we're not quitting or anything like that,” said Heisey.
Heisey realizes the decision to cancel the Gettysburg Reenactment for 2020 is garnering criticism, especially after he promised to keep the event going last year when the Gettysburg Anniversary Committee announced it would no longer organize it. But, when he heard the “Restoring the Covenant” event featuring Glenn Beck was coming to Gettysburg on the same weekend that the reenactment was scheduled, Heisey said he became worried about safety.

“We're more concerned about, you know, what's going to happen with law enforcement, you know, emergency services, traffic control. You know, things like that,” he said.
Heisey also worries about the safety of his participants and the crowd that would come to watch them.
“The safety is first and foremost, you know. I don't want to risk anybody who shows up to any event that I'm promoting or putting on and have to feel like they're looking over their shoulder. I want them to be completely comfortable and for us to create that kind of atmosphere we would have to put in ten times more security,” he said, adding that more security would also mean higher costs.

Beck’s having another event??
Geez.
.........and if the same thing happens next year?
I don’t get it. Who cares about Glen Beck?
He’s giving Beck way too much credit if he thinks anyone is going to attend or protest because of him.
Beck might draw 1,000 people nowadays.
Rush can do it by himself, as can Levin and a few others. In other shows with a single market, there seems to a requirement for a sidekick, usually a female, sometimes lacking any knowledge about anything, just there as "balance" for diversity.
5% chance this is actually about Glenn Beck, 95% chance this guy has a much bigger and more complicated event on his hands than he anticipated and a much smaller support structure and budget available to him and the size of the Glenn Beck event gave him an out.
It takes a lot more than passion to pull off a big outdoor festival-type event, and when you have to add the complications of firearms , horses, and a participant population with experience in successful events second guessing you along the way but not offering assistance, it has to be a relief to have someone else to blame for it falling through ahead of time.
I sponsored a Cheeto art contest but had to cancel to protect the artwork when I found out Beck had booked the same venue that weekend.
Right, that Glenn Beck guy is reeeal scary. He and his homies might come after you if you piss him off. /s
These are all dying because Confederate reenactors are now designated as Hate Groups.
I remember Glenn Beck.
Who the heck is Glenn Beck?
Deo Vindice
Glenn Beck affected my listening habits while driving. He dominated conservative talk radio during the morning drive time, and since I was unable to stand any longer his Never-Trump rants, I started listening to books on CD. That Trump-hater is now all but gone from our local airwaves, but I still listen to books on CD.
Glenn Beck is he still on air?
cop out. cancelling over some clown like beck? and beck is an _ss to pick a time to pull some stunt and disrupt the usual timing of the annual reenactment.
went to gettysburg as a child and though i didn’t understand much it left an impression on me - made me thankful to know people of the past fought for me to have freedoms and all else that makes our country unique.
it appears the reenactment is relocating to richmond va this year...
That is what I was thinking.
How many people have not figured out what this fraudster is about?
