Every year, around the anniversary of the battle, Gettysburg used to host a Civil War Relic Show, and also a Book Show on the same weekend. The place was always packed...bumper to bumper cars. They've since moved it to the fall. The anniversary reenactment was usually held around the same time, but it was held outside the actual city of Gettysburg. I don't understand why they've cancelled it since it's not actually in the city. Gettysburg also has an Outdoor Antique Show twice a year with dealers setting up tables up and down the main streets. This year's shows are scheduled for May 16th and September 26th. I used to go to the antique shows, and the Relic and Book shows every year, back in the early 90's.
Restoring the Covenant
I attended on of the reenactments several years ago. It took place on a farm field well outside of Gettysburg. They made an announcement before the "show" that no reenacters were actually being killed so as not to traumatize the children in attendance who might think otherwise.
The whole event was poorly done and a waste of time and money.
