A Muslim Iraqi refugee who previously worked as a war journalist announced she is running for Congress in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District, meaning she will try to unseat Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar.
In her campaign announcement video, Dalia al-Aqidi said she was fortunate to be able to come to the United States as a little girl with her mother to escape Saddam Hussein, who she described as a "brutal dictator." Seeing how terror had affected her family, al-Aqidi says in the video she was happy President Trump ordered the death of Iranian general and terrorist Qasem Soleimani.
"I've gone from a frightened girl to a determined fighter against oppression wherever I find it, and sometimes that's closer than we think," al-Aqidi states. "In our own Congress, agents of anger and discord are tearing at America from within...like Ilhan Omar."
Noting their similarities, al-Aqidi says her and Omar "couldn't be further apart."
"When President Trump ended the murderous reign of Qassem Soleimani...Ilhan Omar was outraged, attacking the President, defending the terrorist, driving further and further apart. She claims to speak for all Muslims, but she does not speak for me."
DID YOU SEE? I’ve announced I’m running for Congress in MN-5 to defeat Ilhan Omar. https://t.co/El9474IVRj pic.twitter.com/f4psbBVZ8l— Dalia al-Aqidi (@Dalia4Congress) January 17, 2020
Al-Aqidi has also criticized the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
As a Muslim, CAIR @CAIRNational does not represent me and will never do. https://t.co/BWNpSBDZOs— Dalia al-Aqidi (@Dalia4Congress) January 16, 2020
She might have already unseated herself.
The media will suddenly become concerned with antisemitism and theyll attack her for not doing enough to fight it. Questions will be raised over why she doesnt have enough jewish and/or christian friends.
She is very much not guilty, and an easy choice over the evil Omar. I just dont like the idea of Muslims in Congress.
From MN-5, that's probably all we're going to see, going forward.
Ive never heard of her, but that’s a fantastic campaign advert.
How long until the jihadists try to behead her for not following sharia sh*t law?
Its the Minneapolistan district. Ole and Sven dont live there anymore.
“Dalia al-Aqidi said she was fortunate to be able to come to the United States...”
HOORAY Dalia
I probably would NEVER vote for a Muslim. Funky world view.
Correct. Since Islam as a political viewpoint is in direct contradiction to our laws and Constitition.
One cannot serve two masters. You owe your allegiance to Islam. Or the USA.
Can't do both.
That’s a great ad. I’d support her.
I agree with you.
Food for thought...
Why is it that islamic nations are centuries behind the west in development, technology, human rights and conversely leaders in oppression?
That world view would spell a great future for America....lol...
I just watched her You Tube video and the public comments were uniformly positive.
Based on some Iranians of my acquaintance, patriotic Moslems tend to be pretty secular. No great surprise there.
We patriots tend to view Islam as some monolithic evil, much as we viewed communism back in Reagan’s day. As we are seeing in Iran, Islam has its own internal fractures and fissures, every bit as serious as those facing our culture.
They haven’t killed Omar yet for adultery and/or divorce. Taqqiya maybe?
She very much represents a lot of Muslims who fled oppression in their own Islamic countries. The question is she right or center in her overall views? I have one friend, born in the USA, whose atheist father fled Iran when the Ayatolla came to power and whose mother is a believing Islamic Moroccan. They too have issues regarding Islam. So I also wonder how dedicated is this woman’s belief in Islam?
Yeah, but she is running a Republican, so she may be eligible for killing, unless she is using Taqqiya
Nice .... Very nice...I’ll vote for her...(and she is cute, too!)
The only Muslim state Representative in Florida is a Republican who’s more conservative than some of the Christian Republicans...
