The Department of Homeland Security has requested assistance from the Pentagon to build 270 miles of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border to combat drug smuggling, senior U.S. defense officials said.
The DHS request arrived at the Department of Defense Wednesday and will take about two weeks to assess its feasibility, the officials said. The officials, who briefed reporters on condition of anonymity, would not provide any cost estimates.

How will Democrats get their cocaine?
New DHS Head.
Maybe poor little ‘not tough enough’ Kirstjen Nielsen should take notes.
Let’s hope that $7.2B covers more than 270 miles of new and dlapidated fencing on federal land—as that’s upwards of $27 million per mile—or more than $5k per foot of fence.
(Spending DoD style, I guess!)
Think of all commemorative stuff Nan could buy.
“Lets hope that $7.2B covers more than 270 miles of new and dlapidated fencing on federal landas thats upwards of $27 million per mileor more than $5k per foot of fence.”
I dealt with military contracts for an entire career. If I could have cut out the unnecessary parts I could have lowered the equipment costs by orders of magnitude. The contracts are full of pork, padding and requirements to use this or that company or service as political patronage. One honest Democratic senator said, “Politics is all about who gets how much and when.” (Can’t remember his name. Hillary ran for his seat.)
The same way they always do. In the briefcases of diplomats.
Not just a "fence"..more like a 32 ft bollard system, with deep foundations, side access paved road, electronic surveillance and detection systems, lighting etc.
It’s a fence.
A tall fence, but a fence.
I believe that—and hope that’s not why Jared has added it to his expansive portfolio.
(Already he oversaw our giveaway of sovereignty in the USMCA deal, just signed this week.)
Quid pro Joe is never going to go for this! After the wall is completed, how will he be able to help Hunter get his dope. After all, Hunter is now stressed out with the responsibility of another mouth to feed.
Two drug smuggling corridors needing wall is Texas (Del Rio to Eagle Pass to Laredo to Falcon Lake) and Arizona (T’ohana Oodham (sp?) Indian res to about Sasabe before the mountains start.
Lots of tech needs to help in Arizona mountains.
Maybe Texas won’t count since it is not federal land until eminent domain occurs.
So AR T’ohona Oodham res to New Mexico might be the route.
Funding also covers giant mutant scorpions fitted with lasers to patrol?
That I might go for!
