We should let the youngsters build it. It would be a good scientific education for them. And if you get a properly fried turkey out of the deal, so much the better! LOL

Don’t they suffer notable degradation after 20 years or so, or am I mixing them up with another type of panel?

the tallest molten salt tower in the world

molten salt that sounds pretty frickin hot - I kinda find harnessing the sun out in the desert interesting compared to lots of crap we spend money on - yeah it could have gone toward the wall but at least it didn't go toward voter fraud/outreach or something. Molten salt thats cool err I mean hot it's neato!

Same result. Government money to democrat-connected politician’s families, democrat unions, democrat donor businesses

_____________

Yep. I just tried to look online for political donations by the company without success, but you can bet that there were some healthy kickbacks, er donations, by the executives who received over 700 million dollars from we the people.

That is how all of this “green” energy stuff works.

My step brother works for a nuclear energy start up company that is developing a fourth generation gas (He) cooled reactor.

They also recently built a pilot plant to fabricate a new kind of pebble bed fuel.

I assume they have some private investors, but, as far as I know, the Department of Energy pays for just about everything.

I have very mixed feelings about direct government research subsidies to a private business.

The company is eleven years old. It's possible they do design work or consult for outside income, but they have no products for sale.

I can't help but think about nuclear fusion - just 10 years away (for the last freaking 70 years!).

Ironically, their first gas cooled reactor contract starts in 10 years, with the country of Jordan.

A $737 Million boondoggle!

Anybody going to prison for this one?

Who will repay the poor suffering US taxpayer?

Somebody gotta lotta ‘splainin’ to do!

PS If the kids built it, it would probably generate electricity 24/7 AND cook the damn turkey! For half the price!

Thanks man. Boulder City is one place I’m considering. And the no state income tax is one draw of course. Do they at least make home solar reasonable or is there permitting/rectal exam hell?

Solar. Unless you are in the middle of NFW, you must hook up to the grid. I believe the ROE is min 10 years. I have enough space to not put them on my roof but not interested in investing in it. As far as permits, no clue. But NVenergy may have some program for those interested.

I can understand your thoughts on thirds matters.

I’d be thinking along the same lines.

Somewhat familiar with the movie but haven’t actually seen it. Does seem like an apt comparison.

Did you get a room there overnight?

I ate at the Mizpah restaurant probably a half dozen times. It was by far the nicest place in Tonopah. Out of curiosity I once wandered the upstairs hallways but never saw the inside of a room. The halls were narrow and dark, like being on a movie set. I wondered what a Victorian era hotel room might look like in terms of size and appointments but never got to see for myself.
