Federal prosecutors in Washington are investigating a years-old leak of classified information about a Russian intelligence document, and they appear to be focusing on whether the former F.B.I. director James B. Comey illegally provided details to reporters, according to people familiar with the inquiry.
The case is the second time the Justice Department has investigated leaks potentially involving Mr. Comey, a frequent target of President Trump, who has repeatedly called him a “leaker.” Mr. Trump recently suggested without evidence that Mr. Comey should be prosecuted for “unlawful conduct” and spend years in prison.
The timing of the investigation could raise questions about whether it was motivated at least in part by politics. Prosecutors and F.B.I. agents typically investigate leaks of classified information around the time they appear in the news media, not years later. And the inquiry is the latest politically sensitive matter undertaken by the United States attorney’s office in Washington, which is also conducting an investigation of Mr. Comey’s former deputy, Andrew G. McCabe, that has been plagued by problems.
Law enforcement officials are scrutinizing at least two news articles about the F.B.I. and Mr. Comey, published in The New York Times and The Washington Post in 2017, that mentioned the Russian government document, according to the people familiar with the investigation. Hackers working for Dutch intelligence officials obtained the document and provided it to the F.B.I., and both its existence and the collection of it were highly classified secrets, the people said.
The document played a key role in Mr. Comey’s decision to sideline the Justice Department and announce in July 2016 that the F.B.I. would not recommend that Hillary Clinton face charges in her use of a private email server to conduct government business while secretary of state.

It’s funny how leftard journalists and lawmakers believe so conclusively and selectively that there is no evidence on the one hand, when it’s everywhere in plain sight, and so conclusively and selectively that there is evidence when it’s never been uncovered. This is not investigation or reasoning. It’s alchemy and dogma.
What protection does this President have when he has been harrassed, probed, investigated, spied on, etc. If he dares suggest that investigation needs to be done in regards to leaks or illegal activity then the media and Dems scream obstruction, politically motivated, etc.
The President is the one being harmed and with many investigations nothing has been found.
So basically any current or future Republican Presidents can never ask for investigations that would be linked to politically motivated people at State Dept, DOJ, FBI, NSI, etc.
What recourse does this President have to fight all of this?
I must admit that I’m not hopeful about seeing any of the major players in the conspiracy going to trial...and even less hopeful of any convictions

You are being very realistic. There is not and will never be any kind of sweeping dragnet to round up the traitorous cabal. The Swamp would never permit any trials that might expose their seditious activities. That just isn’t ever going to happen.
DC never punishes DC. Its all one big club of crooks and felons.
Insane since the person accused of leaking was the head of the FBI so therefore in their mind you can’t investigate it because Trump is President and therefore its been deemed politically motivated.
He has a DOJ with untold terrabytes of incriminating evidence that will convict and destroy what is currently known as the democrat Party.

There is a real possibility the left will be able to remove the President, solely because we elected the wrong person.
It feels like the only way honorable conservatives (and conservative media) can fight the left and have any chance of prevailing, is to get down in the dirt and resolve to outright lie, scheme, plot and connive even more than the left (if that is even possible). The left is not hung up on such minor things as integrity, truth, honor, etc. Just winning at all costs.
With a country full of naïve, trusting the media, un-critical thinking, low information voters — i.e. sheep — what hope is there for such old fashioned ideas like “truth” to be able to defeat Schiff/Dims/media/corrupt FBI/corrupt DOJ? (Question raised as a joke.)
There has got to a number of clever, devious, sneaky, treacherous, vile, and tricky good guys/gals to mount a challenge to the left’s dirty tactics. Surely there is.
If a new party ever came into being determined to fight the left using the left’s tactics, count me in.

Isn’t the New York times a co-conspirator in this exact aspect of the coup? These people took money and bribes received access and privilege in return wrote whatever Obama’s lackeys told them to.
I wonder if one of two things are involved here:
* Someone in DOJ is after Comey for his crimes and this is one way of getting him on criminal charges.
* Someone in the Deep State is willing to sacrifice Comey to protect the higher-ups (Clapper, Brennan, Biden, Hillary, Obama).
If he ends up in jail and his career legacy in tatters, by any means legal or extralegal, I’m all for it.
