A Missouri Lawmaker says he wants to keep sexual materials at libraries out of kids hands.
But a lot of people are pushing against the idea, saying its a form of censorship.
The main thing is I want to be able to take my kids to a library and make sure theyre in a safe environment, and that theyre not gonna be exposed to something that is objectionable material, says State Representative Ben Baker. Unfortunately, there are some libraries in the state of Missouri that have done this. And thats a problem.
On January 8th, Baker filed the Parental Oversight of Public Libraries Act, and its already getting backlash.
I was contacted by my fellow directors across the state. Theyre all very very upset about it. The Missouri Library Associations very aware of it, so also is the American Library Association at a federal level, says Carrie Cline, Director of the Neosho Newton County Library.
House Bill 2044, if passed, would make it so that no library that receives state aid can allow minors access to age-inappropriate sexual material.
The bill also sets up a five-person parental library review board, which would decide what material is considered inappropriate for minors.
The main thing that Ive heard is that I want to ban books or ban content or censor content, and thats not the case. I just think that theres a line between what is open and available access for our children, says Baker. Even the bill specifies it wouldnt be taken out of the library, it would just be put in a section thats not for children.

Should we not rate books on age-appropriate content?
good thing that none of them has access to the Internet.
And how do you rate that? Who makes the decisions?
What’s next? Ban kids from going to art museums because they might see a painting of a naked person?
The libraries do not want to keep any such materialcaway from kids. They bring trannies in to read perverted books to kids.
They only want to keep bibles and books that affirm Christian values away from everyone.
And it may just curb the number of dirty old men and dirty old women from the library. We are a sicko country. God is going to put The Hammer to us one of these days and it won’t be pretty.
Perhaps he means well, but Rep. Baker is at least 25 years behind the times.
The American Library Ass is far Left.
They state in their materials that they believe all items in a library should be general access with no restrictions (even for R or NC-17 films or periodicals like Playboy etc).
And who do you think spread the “Drag Queen Storytime” across the nation?
And their “banned book list” does not include the books on firearms etc that they have personally banned.

The American Library Association supports equal and equitable access to all library resources and services by users of all ages. Library policies and procedures that effectively deny minors equal and equitable access to all library resources and services available to other users is in violation of the American Library Associations Library Bill of Rights. The American Library Association opposes all attempts to restrict access to library services, materials, and facilities based on the age of library users.
...Children and young adults unquestionably possess First Amendment rights, including the right to receive information through the library in print, sound, images, data, social media, online applications, games, technologies, programming, and other formats.1 Constitutionally protected speech cannot be suppressed solely to protect children or young adults from ideas or images a legislative body believes to be unsuitable for them.2 Libraries and their library governing bodies should not resort to age restrictions in an effort to avoid actual or anticipated objections, because only a court of law can determine whether or not content is constitutionally protected...
I never said anything about banning anyone from anything.
I simply noted we rate movies and tv programs based on adult content. We could do the same thing for books if people agree to do it.
The ALA won’t restrict access to DVDs, CDs, or magazines that are already labeled by the manufacturer as “adults only”.
So hand an 8 year old the Joy Of Sex if he wants to thumb through it.
Retailers will still be prosecuted by the Vice Squad for selling such materials to minors.
Just ask Al and Tipper Gore who launched a wave of prosecutions of clerks who sold PMRC labeled albums to minors in sting operations.
Rep. Baker, you go the library with your children, and you approve what they may or may not check out. Simple, easy.
Sample dialogue:
TC: This is inappropriate. You can’t check it out.
James: Okay.
Every kid has a friend with a smart phone. They have no need to get their smut from the library.
Every bar has a drag queen bingo day now too, they don’t need to get their tranny fix at the local library but they do. Wrestling/ticklefights included.
They would have to ban many new textbooks...not a bad idea.
