Some jack@ss took it upon himself to make the bizarre claim that the Senate can impose this punishment even if the President is NOT convicted ... and that scenario has now gone viral on FR.

I heard it on Rush (Mark Steyn was filling in). The caller had zero support. Just said there was a "judge" that they did that to. The problem is that there are 1000's of trolls and disrupters waiting to get on the air and spew crap like that. Very hard to screen it out. Steyn brushed it off, but should have pushed back on the caller.

The caller had it ass-backwards. He's referring to the case of Alcee Hastings, who was impeached as a Federal judge and convicted in the Senate. His punishment was his removal from office, but the Senate did NOT forbid him from serving in office again ... which is why he's now a crooked member of Congress instead of a crooked Federal judge.
