Houston is a faraway place on FM 1413 in southern Liberty County, where a driver is more likely to see a pony munching on grass than a shop on the corner. If not for the trees and an electrical transmission line, the sky would be unbroken, horizon to horizon.
It soon could look a lot more like other parts of suburban Houston where the Grand Parkway has gone, with cul-de-sacs replacing horse pastures and retail centers sprouting at major intersections.

When I traveled to the FReeper Memorial Shoot near Whitney, I took the Chisholm Trail Parkway to get from DFW to Cleburne, and I didn't mind the tolls. It was an easy trip on the toll road.

Im sick of toll roads. What do we pay gasoline taxes for?

Were slowpokes on the 2-lane section a problem for you?

The Walmart trucks were the only slowpokes, and — yes — they ticked me off. I passed them on the 4-lane sections.

You should come up to Maryland sometime. Truckers go slow either out of necessity or because of speed governors, IMO. However, in Maryland, you have slowpokes of all shapes and sizes. You will be late to everything.

In my Maryland driving, I’ve always come up the Eastern Shore and skipped the metropolitan areas. US 301 is less stressful than I-95.

And sure enough if you read farther down the piece, BOOM! CLIMAGEDDON rears her ugly head.

Houston traffic during rush hours is terrible.
Any other time it’s like driving on a NASCAR
track. In the slow lane, passing is difficult,
in the fast lane, you had better be willing to
drive 80+, and it’s bumper to bumper. In your
rear veiw, all you see is grille.
