Exactly. Clinton had a kid gloves BS trial with basically no negative optics for Clinton despite 4 felonies. The GOP controlled the Senate. They are going to conduct a prolonged public flogging for Trump and Mitch is going to allow it. The talk of the outrageous House process is gone. Mealy mouth Mitch is treating it like the House conducted a dignified and fair impeachment hearing now as if we don’t remember how awful it was

Exactly. McConnell fancies himself the ultimate parliamentarian. Recall all the nonsense associated with the Corker Iran bill? Most likely McConnell has cooked up something to shield the Senate from tough votes/scrutiny. Perhaps an expanded role for CJ Roberts? Roberts could be ruling on admissibility of witnesses, evidence, etc. instead of the full senate. Wouldn’t that be lovely?

But obviously McConnell doesn’t want to let that back stab out of the bag just yet. He’ll hold that until the process is too far gone to stop it. I hope I’m wrong but the way McConnell punted today was not good at all. The tough talk is gone.
