The saddest part about these fires in California is that they are self inflicted. Californians should not allow such mismanagement to continue.
I grew up in California’s Ventura County and have family in both southern and northern California. Right now, the most deadly fire in California’s history is racing across northern California. The Camp Fire has already killed at least 56 people, burned down 7,700 homes, and destroyed the entire town of Paradise. A brush fire is also wreaking havoc on southern California. The Woolsey Fire has destroyed 98,362 acres, killed two people, and damaged several Hollywood landmarks such as the set of “MASH” and the Reagan Ranch.
Article after article blames two things for California’s frequent fires: global warming and human action. For example, a BuzzFeed article is titled, “How A Booming Population And Climate Change Made California’s Wildfires Worse Than Ever.” While dry conditions make fires more likely and people often start them, this misses the big picture. President Trump summed it up on Nov 10. He wrote, “There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor … Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!”
Trump is right. Mismanagement and overregulation deserve most of the blame, .........................

The very same bad policies have been in effect in Australia. Farmers and ranchers would get prosecuted for clearing underbrush so a huge load of fuel built up.
Reagan Ranch uses goats and sheep to clear the brush the ranchers in Australia should to the same, I don’t think WACKO environmentalists can object to animals clearing the brush!!!
There is a certain amount of sick warped logic involved. Enrviro-nazis prevent the removal of underbrush. Underbrush greatly contributes to massively damaging fires. Enviro-nazis get to blame fires on Glowbull Warming, which furthers their totalitarian goal.

True, up to a point. The vast extent of Australia’s eucalypt forests, in mountainous terrain, make it impossible to clear underbrush. Containment lines created through clearing fire-breaks don’t always work in fires that are intense enough and driven by high winds, to jump rivers.
While people love to live surrounded by tall trees and are given permission to build by local authorities, there will always be loss of homes.
A prolonged drought starts the process, dry lightning aids it. The government can throw money at it, charities help with the aftermath, but nothing I can think of will stop this force of nature.
In recent years the Northern regions had so much rain at least 500 million cattle drowned. Australia isn’t a Zen Garden, it never will be. The first recorded really bad drought in this country was shortly after settlement, and nothing has changed since, it’s floods, droughts and fires...all the way through.
Just outlaw people rebuilding any home that is burned down by wild fires in California because Mother Gaia obviously wanted the house burned to make way for new trees and undergrowth.

We’ve been using large herds of goats here in the Santa Ana Canyon for several years as well. It’s one piece of the puzzle, but goats can’t clear huge tracts of land.
They are used to clear brush somewhat close to houses, but there aren’t anywhere near enough goats to clear out the tracts of forest land. So we are still vulnerable to wind driven debris that’s on fire. That stuff can travel for miles, land on your roof, get sucked into attic vents, set fire to your landscaping. All of that can light your house on fire.
There’s ways to build much more fire resistant conventional houses but unless code demands it builders won’t do it. So most of our housing is vulnerable.
What’s needed is to require that burnt down houses be rebuilt to stringent fire codes. We know what makes houses much more resistant to brush fires, it needs to be code in most of the state.
