Venice canals almost dry, two months after severe floods

Low tides have left canals in Venice almost dry, just two months after severe flooding left much of the Italian city under water.

Boats have been seen almost beached as water levels dip drastically.

The canals look more like mud trenches and getting around has become a problem for many in the city.

In November, Venice experienced its highest water levels in more than 50 years in what some said was a direct result of climate change.

Climate change behind highest tide in 50 years, says mayor

More than two thirds of the city was underwater then, with the mayor estimating damage at over a billion euros ($1.1bn; £850m).

Landmarks like St Mark's Square were flooded, while shops and businesses had to close.

The latest low tide - while exceptional - is not quite as unprecedented. The tides here mean water levels can vary by around half a metre, or sometimes even more.

I wonder if you could go along the canals with some boots on and a metal detector you could find some ancient artifacts.

I never watch 59 Minutes but last night when I turned the TV on, they were doing one of their weekly globull warming exposes. It was about Venice and coming soon to every coastal community in the world. Well, at least all of those that are experiencing subsidence.

Probably, but digging in 5-10ft of that muck would be tough and most likely unhealthy.

I shudder to think what the global warmists of today would have said and done back in the day when Pangea started to break up. I would have all been blamed on the conservatives of the day, who had refused to spend all the world’s money to stop it.

How wrong you are!

Everyone knows it’s:

Floods = climate change

Low water = climate change.

Something happening, of not happening anywhere, anytime = climate change.

Read a geology article awhile ago that said the Mediterranean Sea dried many times in the past. The Sahara has river beds. Rocks from the North Pole are found near the equator.

Climate crap happened even before human existed.

Of course they never mention the fact that the canals have silt that has accumulated over the centuries. High tide comes in, not enough depth to keep the water out of the city. Low tide goes out, canal not deep enough to allow boat travel.

What do I know, I'm just a climate denier and deserve to be put against the wall.

You don’t have to go back 230 millions years.

14,000 years ago, when native american ancestors lived in North America, Upstate NY was still under 1 mile of ice and it was melting fast.

Glaciers were shedding 25-50 feet of ice/year IN DEPTH. Sea level rose 400 feet in 4,000 years. (it hasn’t gone up more than 15 feet in the last 4,000 years).

Even with our current “global warming”, Glaciers in Greenland ARE STILL GROWING in depth.

Maybe climate change is causing sea levels to fall.

You might be right about not having to go back 230 million years, but, think about the insanity that would ensue if the planet started to split into many pieces. That would be a lot more devastating to the warmists.
