An emergency alert sent to residents of Canada’s Ontario province that warned about an “incident” at a nuclear power plant was sent in error, the Ontario Power Generation said.

On Sunday morning at about 7:20 a.m., an “incident” was reported at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station near Toronto, triggering the government to send an emergency alert to local residents. The bulletin, sent to people within 10 kilometers of the nuclear plant, did not offer details about the incident.

The alert was sent during during a routine training exercise conducted by the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre, Ontario Power Generation said. The company said the Solicitor General of Ontario had confirmed there was no intention to notify the public in this instance. A full investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the error, the company said.

Later in the morning and afternoon, municipalities across the GTA likely reported extremely high water usage, taxing municipal water treatment plants. Electricity usage also likely peaked. The cause? Millions of residents of the ‘Golden Horseshoe’ were washing out their soiled undies, all at the same time.

Well done, Ontario Hydro!

If it had happened in the USA, they would be condemning Trump as a warmonger.

Funny that Coal Plants don’t need early warning evac systems. Must be because nuclear plants are so safe it will take everyone by surprise...

One of those nuclear powered “hydro” plants. They call electric service hydro up there. Pretty funny.
