Zelensky seeks justice after Iran apologizes for shooting down Ukrainian plane, killing 176 people

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, after Iran admitted shooting down a Ukrainian airline and killing all 176 people on board, called for assurances from Tehran “of readiness for a full and open investigation, bringing those responsible to justice, the return of the bodies of the dead, payment of compensation, official apologies through diplomatic channels.”
----------
A statement by the Iranian Armed Forces on Jan. 11:
3. In such critical and critical conditions, Flight PS752 of the Ukrainian airlines departs from Imam Khomeini Airport and, while in rotation, is completely approaching a sensitive military center of the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps and at altitude and in form of a hostile flight. In these circumstances, the plane was accidentally hit by human error and, unfortunately, which unfortunately results in the martyrdom of dear compatriots and the death of a number of foreign nationals.

4. The Armed Forces staff, while expressing condolences and sympathy to the grieving families of other countries and the apologies for the human error, giving full assurance that the pursuit of fundamental reforms in the operational processes at the Armed Forces level can be repeated. Make such errors impossible and immediately report the culprit to the Armed Forces Judicial Organization in order to deal with any legal errors.
--------
Ukrainian lawyer and aviation expert Andriy Guck said that Ukraine shouldn’t accept Iran’s “unintentional attack” explanation and demand full admittance of guilt.

“The human error is the reason only for the missile to be fired but it is not the only reason for this disaster,” he said on Facebook. “The investigation must continue and look into such reasons as why Iran didn’t close its airspace, why this plane was allowed to take off from the airport, and how the sides of the conflict failed to guarantee the safety of the civilian flights. These are the duties of the state that they failed to perform, not just the mistakes of certain people.”

Guck cited the lawyers representing Ukraine in international courts against Russia in the case of Russian military shooting down the Malaysian Airlines MH17 flight over eastern Ukraine in July 2014, killing 283 people on board. The Ukrainian lawyers, he said, insist that when military shoot a missile intending to hit a military plane, but at the same time can’t unmistakably discern a civilian aircraft from a military one, such an attack is defined as intentional.

Gaslight?
You watched it all from your desk?

Oh, on video like Brennan, Clapper, and Comey on video?

I understand you’re paid, or inclined for personal reasons, or just plain stupid enough, to believe whatever the Barry Blowing Hillary crowd feed you, but you’re not convincing anyone that the evidence the Dutch ignored because it didn’t fit the predetermined verdict doesn’t exist.

LOL. There you go again. I watched MH17 unfold in real time in breaking news report and social media postings over several hours time. I recall it distinctly. The Russians had previously shot down Ukrainian aircraft and incorrectly assumed what turned out to be MH17 was another one. So Girkin was active on social media that morning and happy to take “credit” for murdering all those kids on MH17. They were quite proud of what the Russian military had done.

So it’s quite amusing now for you to gaslight and lie on the subject. I recall the same at the time regarding Crimea here. It was an uprising of farmers and miners, etc. Then Putin handed out the medals to Russians from Moscow who conducted the op and you Putinists put all those lies down the memory hole. Sorry, no sale here.

That’s perfect.

Trump has been vindicated with his very first statement in the speech, that Iran will never get nuclear weapons as long as he’s president. Good reason right here!

Good analysis:

The air defence crew, probably afraid of being targeted by American aircrafts (the sensors in modern fighter planes are powerful enough to identify the SAM from extremely far away), pressured by the heighten tensions (their government just launched ballistic missiles on a superpower), protecting a missile base (high target after a ballistic missile attack) and relying on limited sensors capabilities were unable to identify the aircraft on time, only seeing an unidentified target coming towards them and failing to take in consideration that an international airport was present which leads us to question, was the crew even notified of the airspace still being open to civilian traffic, or was there an internal memo that superseded such facts ? Chances are that, the ground crew, pushed the fire button before properly identifying the aircraft, closing on them, driven by fear, pressure, internal communication failure and most definitely lack of training.

It is a lot of truth in this post written by a worried Russian:

Iran shot itself in the foot. It is just a matter of time. If the Iranian sanctions are lifted, Iran will be oriented not to Russia, but to the West. They told us 5 years ago that the Western lobbies in Iran are strong. We don’t have technology, everything we can offer is weapons and they are questionable.

It’s not even fair to expect hard action from Ukraine right now. They have their hands full with the Russian invasion.

Canada on the other hand is comfortable and a rich country and they should be pressured to do something.

If the US had taken any action over Tehran, as the Iranians may have feared/ expected/ hoped, you can be sure that they would try to pin the shoot-down on the US and the world would be excoriating President Trump over “reckless adventurism.”
