Closer to home, He is ignorant of the Muster Ground in Abington Virginia where the militias mustered on numerous occasions to go into battle. The site is at the beginning of the Overland Victory Trail to Kings Mountain NC where in 1780 the militias from Virginia joined the larger force at Sycamore Shoals, Fort Watauga at present day Elizabethton Tennessee.
They need to muster now to march to Richmond to depose the anti American legislature and Governor
Great point - connect VA history and right not only to bear arms, but also exercising that right to form a militia to defend our country and its freedoms. That right can still be exercised.
Thanks for inserting some Revolutionary history here too. Do you know the path that the Abington militia traveled to Kings Mountain? Did they follow what is currently Route 29 into (near) Greensboro?
Some of the Regulators from Hillsborough were said to have fled “over the mountain” into eastern TN after the Battle of Alamance. Some of them came back through Sycamore Shoals on the way to fight at Kings Mountain. There is an effort right now to develop the Over the Mountain Trail in western NC.
I am ignorant of the Muster Ground in Abington, Virginia. My Great-great-great ....grandfather Henry Mann must have something to do with that. I regret I do not know more about him except his picture is hanging or was hung in the libary at the Univ of Virginia.
If family stories bear a modicum of truth, he would be furiously fighting for the 2nd Amendment because he understood the tyranny of the dictatorship, royalty, etc. Also he understood very well how easy it was to subjugate a population to whoever is in power if they population could not bear arms freely.
I hope we don’t repeat the Revolution or Civil War but with the pure ignorance and stupidity of the many uneducated in our population now, either may happen. Uneducated includes those who have “gone to school even unto the sacred Phd level” and not learned any history or the meaning of the Constitution and the Amendments.
