Iraqs caretaker prime minister asked the U.S. secretary of state to start working out a road map for an American troop withdrawal from Iraq, his office said Friday, signaling his insistence on ending the U.S. military presence despite recent moves to de-escalate tensions between Iran and the U.S.
Adel Abdul-Mahdi made the request in a telephone call with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday night, his office said in a statement. He also told Pompeo that recent U.S. strikes in Iraq were an unacceptable breach of Iraqi sovereignty and a violation of the two countries security agreements.
The Iraqi leader asked Pompeo to send delegates to Iraq to prepare a mechanism to carry out the parliaments resolution regarding the withdrawal of foreign troops from Iraq, according to the statement.
The prime minister said American forces had entered Iraq and drones are flying in its airspace without permission from Iraqi authorities and this was a violation of the bilateral agreements, the statement added.
Iraqi lawmakers passed a resolution to oust U.S. troops last Sunday, following the U.S. drone strike that killed top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani and senior Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis at Baghdads airport. The non-binding vote put the responsibility on the government to formally request a withdrawal. Abdul-Mahdi, addressing lawmakers at the time, called for urgent measures to ensure the removal of the troops.

Trump tells Abdul-Mahdi to pound salt.
Shut the bases clear the land.
Leave nothing.
Yep, great. Time for the US to quit being a policeman. If we’re going to war, war, then let it be a real Roman style war.
Same here. All ingrates. Bring them all home.
Except that, in all fairness, was it built with their prior approval? If not, I am not sure we can legitimately ask.
I know of someone older (in their 80’s) who decided to invest his own $$ to upgrade a kitchen in a rental apt. When he moved, he asked the property owner to reimburse him. Landlord said: get lost, you never got our permission to do the work, so we’re not paying.
Tell him to pucker up in preparation to kiss the Ayatollahs ass.
Just leave??? How about paying us for for our embassy and Bill these assholrd for our deaf soldiers do not leave until they settle the bill.
If Trump does leave then he needs to go scorched earth on the base on his way out. leave nothing standing or usable.
Abdul-Mahdi is an Iranian puppet. The Shi’a want the US out while the Sunnis and Kurds want us to stay. The Iraqis are setting themselves up for a civil war.
Its all about Iran averting a revolution
We leave and Iran annexes Iraq and makes it a province of Iran. Not good....
Destroying everything we build there will take a while...at least to place the charges. Destruction of equipment and supplies won’t take as long.
Gosh, we'll be happy to do that. President Trump pulls off another brier-patch maneuver.
Just move them into Kurdistan.
“OK, just don’t call us for help when everything goes to Hell.”
We need somewhere to dump those old anthrax spores we have in storage. That would solve 2 problems. 1. destroy the American assets in the country. 2. Wipe out all dating in Iraq and Iran
Don’t we have a lot of stuff to blow up first?
RE: We need somewhere to dump those old anthrax spores we have in storage.
I thought people keep telling us Saddam never had any WMDs?
Prime Minister just waiting to turn Iraq over to the Mullahs of Iran.
