Speaker Nancy Pelosi just pushed through a bill aiming to limit President Trump’s ability to hit Iran, even though the crisis is over. Why?

Thursday’s House passage of her war-powers resolution is almost certainly pure symbolism: Nothing like this is going to pass the Senate, and even if it did its constitutional status would be dubious.

And events, including the president’s actions, have shown that the fears that inspired the bill are unfounded.

mike lee was on fox tonight doubling down on his asinine criticism of the President and claiming the president must inform congress before he takes any action against terrorists- The president does NOT have to inform anyone in congress at all as long as he isn’t declaring official war- but lee was on trying to claim that he ‘respects Donald Trump, BUT, the president must obey his demands otherwise he’s a shameful president and unconstitutional apparently

Pelosi's "ploy" is a cynical political act which reveals her to be willing to trade or at least jeopardize the national security of the country for a passing political advantage in an election year.

How have we come to the place where the speaker of the House of Representatives, virtually all of her Democrat colleagues there and much of the American media all find this cynicism unremarkable? After all, Pelosi is quite intentionally damaging the ability of the President of the United States and commander-in-chief to defend the nation and to conduct foreign policy against enemies who have demonstrated time and again their eagerness to kill Americans and to acquire the nuclear bombs to do so wholesale?

Her state of mind and that of those who support her it seems to me can come only from an unspoken assumption that goes deeper than animosity toward Donald Trump. It embraces a thoroughly selfish rationalization. First, the United States is unworthy of making war to defend itself. Either because we live in a nuclear age or because we are in an age of globalism, the assumption is that the nation state, especially the American nation, is the problem. The problem is nationalism, the problem is a selfish assertion of our national interests, the problem is America is not worth the risks because we are white, racist, homophobic….

Second, much of Washington, the part we refer to as the "deep state," fears that it's rice bowl is being broken by Donald Trump. The Biden corruption in Ukraine and China and elsewhere is but a more visible part of what has been going on for years. Feinstein in China, McConnell in China and Clinton everywhere on planet Earth, are dirty. Their game is threatened to the degree that Trump prospers. In other words, a terrorist threat from a second rate power like Iran is but a trifling consideration against exposing the entire venal domestic and transnational operation scam conducted by the deep state. So, there is no betrayal of the United States in enabling Iran and there is no betrayal of the United States in selling us out to China for personal profit because the United States is unworthy.

The power of the human mind to rationalize selfishness is never to be underestimated.
