Developer Les Otten steps up so Dixville Notch can retain claim to electoral fame
The tiny New Hampshire community, which traditionally is among the first to cast ballots for president in primaries and the general election, needed a fifth resident.

CONCORD, N.H. A tiny New Hampshire community whose tradition of being among the first to cast ballots for president in primaries and the general election was endangered now has enough people to go ahead, the town moderator said Thursday.
Were all a go, said Tom Tillotson, of Dixville Notch.
Dixville Notch has been in the spotlight for nearly 60 years for casting votes just after midnight in the first presidential primary and in November general elections.
But last year, the attorney generals office said the community was missing an official who is needed to hold an election come the Feb. 11 primary. The person who held that position had moved away.
That left Dixville Notch with just four residents Tillotson, his wife, his son and another person. If the community couldnt find a fifth person in time to fill a selectman vacancy, it would have needed to contact the secretary of states office for assistance in joining nearby municipalities in order to vote.
Resident No. 5 is Les Otten, developer of the Balsams resort, where the voting tradition began. Otten said he plans to move to Dixville Notch from Greenwood, Maine, ahead of the primary. He already owns several properties in the New Hampshire community and is working on a $186 million redevelopment project in the area.

Les Otten ran for Governor in Maine as a Republican, but he is a left leaning republican.
It is possible that the one who moved away was a dem and Les adds to the republican side. Personally, I would be surprised is Les votes in such a way that you could discern who he voted for. IE. be only 2 of 2 republican votes for Donald Trump.
Unconstitutional dem power grab, leading to inequal representation.
Wow. I remember when Dixville Notch was a teeming urban Center with 35 people.
American Skiing Company..... Work more for Les!
Sorry, I don’t see how a half burned down hotel is considered a town.....
Thirty-one souls drifted away in a mass exodus when the the mills shut down and the urban decay set in.
Left leaning Republican?!
....no such thing. Hes a liberal ass wipe then.
Vegas prognosticaters have predicted voting results will show Michelle Obama 7,500 vs. Donald Trump 1.
Headline should read: Reverse Midas touch developer Les Otten to stick final knife in back of Dixville Notch. Pathetic human garbage. JMHO.
