I dont think so. I think this attack was carefully calibrated not to provoke any response from Trump because he had succeeded in scaring the shit out of them.
But you are onto something there. The attack on the embassy was no doubt designed to produce a new Iran hostage situation which would sap Trumps support going into the election, so they could then get what private citizen John Kerry promised them on behalf of the shadow government.
Unfortunately for them after all of Trumps restraint over the past year they were sure they were dealing with Jimmy Carter and they got Ronald Reagan instead.
