Iranian retaliation begins with missile attack on Iraqi airbase

Initial reports stated that 9 rockets hit the Ain al-Assad airbase on Tuesday. The base hosts American soldiers.
Heavy missile attacks were carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps on the Ain al-Assad air base in Iraq that hosts both Iraqi and US soldiers on Tuesday night. Nine missiles hit the airbase, according to Al-Hadath.

On KFI, military expert Brian Suits says Iran informed the Iraqi counterparts this was coming and where, and they of course informed the us military. So this was for the Iranian public, for a good feeling of revenge, but just for show really.
Things are changing in Iran. This is what peace deals look like. At some point moderates gain the upper hand. Until Soleimani was taken out, that was never going to happen.

Ok, so think about this. The mullahs fake an attack to look strong to their people, they coordinate through the Iraqis to warn the Americans, and do it in a way that within hours, everyone and their mother knows it was a fake attack. I’m sure the mullahs aren’t worried that their actual fecklessness has been so quickly found out. Sheesh.

The proper response won’t be a long expensive war. It will be a thorough thumping that will neuter the mullahs and the IRG and allow for an internal revolution to succeed.

I never said that. But I certainly don’t believe their was any back channel coordination between trump and the worlds biggest sponsors of terrorism. So once again you misquote me. Stop digging please.

I most definitely appreciate the taking out of saliemani, however you spell that POS’s name. After all the lives he had taken, he got what was coming. To say that entitled Iran to ‘even the score’ is just to buy into their propaganda. They put more American serviceman’s lives at risk tonight with an intention attack, an attack that upped the ante, and crossed many red lines in international law and norms. Why so many want to normalize that is beyond me.

So you expressed that you don’t think such a back channel exists between POTUS and Iran. Okay, you’re entitled to your opinion, but I wasn’t misquoting you.
Because it was quite obviously intended to hurt nobody and was pre-arranged, as Trump tipped off with his rapid “All is well!” post.
I’m willing to give them the save of face. It costs us nothing, and enables their capitulation with minimum force necessary to achieve it.
