Iranian retaliation begins with missile attack on Iraqi airbase

Initial reports stated that 9 rockets hit the Ain al-Assad airbase on Tuesday. The base hosts American soldiers.
Heavy missile attacks were carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps on the Ain al-Assad air base in Iraq that hosts both Iraqi and US soldiers on Tuesday night. Nine missiles hit the airbase, according to Al-Hadath.

I heard a White House spokeswoman today say that Trump has always been open to talking to Iran.
I don’t think this necessarily changes that.
The Iranian people tried to free themselves with their 2009 green movement.. Obama double-crossed them.
Just imagine a scenario where Trump negotiates an actual and verifiable peace deal with Iran. The left would totally lose their minds.

Don’t mind rational diplomacy, however, the US should insist that Iran pay for tonight’s damage on the Air Bases in exchange for the cost of man hours it took scoop off Soleimani’s remains from the road.

They fired short range ballistic missiles and couldn’t hit a military base. This is intentional and the Iranians are trying to save face. Smart move on their part.
The news coverage of this “attack” has been confusing and we likely will not know much more for many hours.
Trump may just patiently assess the situation for a day and formulate a response. He may unleash “operation total destruction” and take out 52 targets or go beyond with a multi-day air campaign. Your guess is as good as mine and I am sure the Pentagon has been working overtime to present him with various options.
A full-blown conflict with Iran has been inevitable for years. On the other hand, there is nothing that would have more positive impact in the Middle East than removing the Iranian Regime. They have been the worst actor in the region for decades.
I think the saner Iranians prevailed and we will see if the Revolutionary Guard is content with this response. Maybe. No one really knows.
