From the perspective of a sense of order, this is probably good.

The first thing on McConnell’s list is to get everybody on record with the rules used against the ‘bent one’ twenty years ago. Anyone who voted for those rules for Slick Willy who votes against them now will be called out for the hypocrisy.

After that, it depends on if Nancy forwards the articles or not. If not, there is a motion ready to dismiss the impeachment for lack of prosecution by the house managers (no show, no case). If Nancy does finally send them over, the GOP controls the votes to decide if they call witnesses or not, and whether or not to vote to dismiss based on the house’s presented case.

McConnell holds all the cards.

Yup.

Nancy looks foolish because she hoped Chuck U would be able to get a trial conducted on Democrat terms.

Now that’s gone. By continuing to sit on impeachment, House Democrats are implicitly admitting their case isn’t going to get them the outcome they want.

So they might as well kill it themselves than watch the GOP vote it down and acquit the President.

It wouldn’t surprise me if that happens.
