Census Projections Show Gains For Republicans In Electoral College In 2020

The left is not going to like this news.

In fact, it will just give them one more reason to oppose the Electoral College.

Projections for the census indicate that Republicans are going to make gains in 2020.

The Blaze reports:

Terrible news for Democrats in 2020: Census projections showing Electoral College gains for GOP

Census projections have bad news for Democrats.

Population estimates show reliably Democratic states, like New York, California, and Illinois will each lose at least one congressional district and representation in the Electoral College. Conversely, states that tend to vote for Republicans—such as Texas, Florida, and Montana—are expected to increase their presence.

“This is looking to benefit Republicans only because of how the landscape has changed,” said Jenna Ellis, senior legal analyst for the Trump 2020 campaign, according to radio station KTRH.

Ellis also noted that Democrats’ anticipated losses is why they mobilized so strongly to oppose the Trump administration’s addition of a citizenship question on the Census.

“They’re not interested in laws,” she said. “They’re not interested in sound reasoning or fair and accurate representation of every American. They are only interested in concentrating their own political power by any means necessary.”…

…when analysts looked at states expected to gain seats, the GOP comes out on top. Three Republican states that went for Trump in 2016—Montana, Arizona, and North Carolina—are likely to pick-up one seat after the Census.

Speaking of the Electoral College, the conservative outlet known as Prager University recently put out a video explaining why it is so important for America.

Oh this is stupid and people never bother to write Census changes only take effect for the 2024 election.

Census hasn’t even been conducted yet! Geez.

Presumes in large part the people moving to the various Red states are conservative voters.

Yep. Sensational headline nothing more. The 20 Census will have 0 impact on the next election.

The opposite presumption is that you might have leaned toward liberal policies in California...to have seen them fail, and in arriving in Texas (with the help of conservative neighbors), you’ve overcome your stupidity and adapted to the Texas way.

I bring this up due to my brother’s comments of Californian technicians arriving in Huntsville, Alabama (his locale), and being pleasantly happy over sports, recreation, conservative values, lower state taxation, lack of gang crime, no homelessness, and lower traffic density. In their case, they’ve found happiness and don’t want to spoil it.

I am hoping that is the case. Ideally, Elimination of SALT, would drive the money out while leaving the moochers in place to finish draining the socialist teet dry.

I tend to believe that those who can afford to relocate do. Those who have family to run to, might. But those who are slave to a lifestyle provided by the state, are less likely to migrate because of the cost.

Picture:
The democratic state body has a malignant mass that is about to have the blood supplied removed. If the state doesn’t change the way it collects and spends revenues, the cancer within will kill the entire organism while hoarding the remaining supply for itself.

If you really want elections reform, make it illegal to enter a public building while drunk or high.... Under the influence / public intoxication.

Won’t affect presidential elections until 2024.

After the census is completed, which body actually determines how many representatives each state is entitled to—the Census Bureau itself? When a state wants to contest that decision, what is its remedy—US District Court?

I think this is about an estimation or projection of what the population counts will be come election time.

Every year between the official census (ie in 2011, in 2012, in 2013, in 2014, ..., in 2019, and during 2020) estimates of the population are made. Data from utility companies (new users), data from county/city new building permits, and likely several additional sources are continually analyzed to project and track estimated adjustments to the previous “official” census.

Likely someone is looking ahead and anticipating what the “estimated 2020” populations are going to look like come November 2020, and merely assume, based on the available projected estimates, that the numbers are going to be positive for Trump.

Don’t know for sure but logically Congress passes a law designating the college based on the aportionment method. There really is no way to mess with it politically once the Census Bureau sets the baseline numbers per state.

The article specifically refers to electoral college changes not demographic shifts since 2016.

It actually is a separate question as to how demographic shifts will affect the 2020 outcome in states that were close.

Thanks. The first finding is that the Legislative Branch itself is in ultimate control:

"The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct."

Second, it enacted a Manner in 1941 which remains the law. Obviously, although census results directly affect only the House's apportionment (and the Electoral College, etc.), the Senate has an equal say in enacting this Manner, which can inhibit the House's partisan majority from creating a partisan Manner.

Your speculation turns out to be correct—that’s always fun, isn’t it?! See post #13.
