U.S. set good tone by ending military draft
Corvallis Gazette Times ^ | Jan 2 2020 | Paul F. deLespinasse

To his eternal credit, Richard Nixon helped end America's draft. Congress responded to his President's Commission on an All-Volunteer Armed Force by discontinuing the draft in 1973.

The United States has set an example that we should encourage other countries to copy.

The commission's report noted that the draft:

"has been a costly, inequitable, and divisive procedure for recruiting men for the armed forces. It has imposed heavy burdens on a small minority of young men while easing slightly the tax burden on the rest of us.

"It has introduced needless uncertainty into the lives of all our young men. It has burdened draft boards with painful decisions about who shall be compelled to serve and who shall be deferred.

"It has weakened the political fabric of our society and impaired the delicate web of shared values that alone enables a free society to exist."

I hope they BURY any official talk about compulsory draft prior to the next election.

Every single yute, male or female, of voting age will make it his/her business to pour out from sea to shining sea, from the mansions to the slums, from the schools to the streets to vote against Trump including all the way down the GOP ticket....and their parents will vote the same way also. Trust me.

“Compulsory service might have made men out of all the pajama boys out there.”

Not if their drill instructor is a woman, they get stress cards to pull in boot camp, and their NCO after bootcamp is a homo or a tranny, and atheist, or if they serve under Lt Rapone flashing his “communism will win’ hat at West Point. Or if they serve in the navy and two estrogen charged women on the bridge are bitchy and won’t speak to each other.

They won’t be serving in the US military circa 1966

There are millions of young people who are not good enough to serve in the military. I heard on the news this morning that 20% of millennials who are pre-diabetic. Pre-diabetics are undisciplined fatsos. Why would the military want large numbers of misfits that don’ want to be in the military? We have the best military people in the world right now. Why change it?

“I also think there are prices too high to pay to save the United States. Conscription is one of them. Conscription is slavery, and I don’t think that any people or nation has a right to save itself at the price of slavery for anyone, no matter what name it is called. We have had the draft for twenty years now; I think this is shameful. If a country can’t save itself through the volunteer service of its own free people, then I say: Let the damned thing go down the drain!”

“Trust me.”

I don’t have to trust you, because it’s common sense. What parent wants to their kids to be FORCED BY A DRAFT to fight a John Bolton neocon war over Middle East sand?

And remember, Neocon warmonger Bolton skipped Vietnam, the filthy hypocrite.

No, they are TOO GOOD to have their lives - or limbs - wasted on the foolish wars we fight today. Would you have wanted your son to lose his legs in the Iraq War - fighting against WMDs that didn’t exist?

If they bring back the draft there should be 2 rules:

1. No college deferments.
2. The sons and grandsons of the President, Vice-President, Representatives, Senators, Federal Judges and senior Cabinet officials are the first ones called up, and barring medical leave from a military doctor, they must serve in a combat role.

“Ahhh, yes, no draft, who needs it?”

You think Bush should have drafted young Americans to fight his Iraq war? We’ve been in Afghanistan 17 years. You want Americans drafted to go there over the next 17 years?

With the lunatic wars we prosecute these days, drafting people to fight them - to possibly lose their arms , legs, or lives in the process - would be criminal.

You mention 1941.

What about 1918? You think Democrat Woodrow Wilson’s draft was justified to get us into World War I?

What about Truman’s draft to compel young Americans to fight in Korea?

What about LBJ’s draft to force young Americans to fight in vietnam?

You down with all those Democrat presidents’ drafts?

Mine was #207. Donald Trump’s was #356.

Two Friends of mine were #1 and #4. They both joined the Air Force.

I had two in my boot camp contingent, that I had to hand deliver to MCRD San Diego. Both were illiterate. They were congenial enough, most functional morons are, but they could not have found the San Diego flight at Lax on a $5 bet.

I remember those guys. They stood at the back of the class so a DI could read them the questions AND the answers. This was 1967 when they had 2 yr enlistments to try and avoid the draft.

I remember the "you joined" speech when one moron pops off. "But sir,I was drafted" The DI walks back in the platoon gets right in the guys chest and says "Well private, you are just one unlucky bastard". He did not graduate.

And in the USS Cole bombing it’s been scrubbed for the internet, but there was an interview with a female sailor who described her desperate search to find her boyfriend after the blast..... as damage control efforts were desperately fighting to save the ship.

I would posit a third rule. If a draft is in effect, all defense industry executives and Congressfools go on a US Military pay scale... period.

A draft is simply refusing to pay the wage that would attract enough into the infantry. The contractor business seems to rate at least 150k a year for dangerous assignments, more for better skill sets. So the government demands you do it for a pittance wage that wouldn’t attract someone to otherwise do it. Pay oilfield wages and you’ll have all the soldiers you can use.

And if blue collar people can be forced to serve for a pittance against their will, I see zero reason we cannot insist Lockheed Martin execs and Congressfools should not be compelled to do likewise... wave the flag and tell them it’s their duty to accept O-9 wages for the duration.

I’m afraid that compulsory service would just bog down our military with millions of petulant, perpetual adolescents who are beyond training or salvage. They’d burn up all of their time filling out discharge paperwork.

That sounds about right, but then the military is expert at turning boys into men. Attend any Army basic training course graduation and watch the women crying as their sons, now men, greet their family after the ceremony. And personally I have seen sock parties where petulant youth were shown the error of their ways and became more manly because of it. And thirdly it is a rite of passage then bonds men together.

Not in mixed platoons. Not in a military that ruthlessly attacks toxic masculinity. Not from a female DI. Not from a tranny or homo or marxist or atheist NCO.
Not from a military that forces men in a combat zone to sit through valuable training to tell them some women have penises. Not in a military with leaders who force them to admire islam and teach rude Saudi terrorists to fly when many good American boys don’t get the chance.

The military that built men is over. Now if someone comes out as a man, it’s because they already were one.

My version of "good tone". The rainbow-colored swimsuit bothers me not one wit...

The rainbow was God’s promise to not flood the earth again. That’s what it meant before the perverts took it over. So I for one am enjoying her rainbow swimsuit.
