It has been an emotional start to the new year for Rocio Rebollar Gomez and her family.

On Thursday, after 31 years in the United States, a country where she had built a life and raised three children, including a son now in the United States Army, Ms. Gomez was deported to Tijuana, Mexico, where she had little family left.

That son, Second Lt. Gibram Cruz, 30, who has been in the Army for five years and rushed to be with her the day after Christmas, said he was “shocked” at the way his mother was treated and called the actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement “completely inhumane.”

In 2011 tried a fiance’ visa, it was denied because “it is not viable they she will remain in the USA”, and they denied 3 tourist visas because they didn’t believe she would return to Thailand. Classic Catch 22.

So I said F it, quit work and moved to Thailand in 2011, fairly easy to get a retirement visa. Was fat, dumb and happy there then God gifted us a daughter in 2013 and we want her educated in the USA (Catholic School).

Applied for a tourist visa in 2017 and surprise, surprise surprise it was approved. Moved here and in Dec 2018 started the sponsorship visa. I have been approved as a sponsor and now they have been reviewing her paperwork since Aug. They sent a letter wanting more evidence, a 693 physical, but they said don’t send it to them while they decide if an interview is required.

In the mean time we leave the USA every 6 months to reset her tourist visa.

The mother doesn’t speak English after 31 years. What does that tell you.

So what is her source of income? Chances are she illegally signed up for welfare. That’s big time stealing.

Lieutenant Cruz, who is based in Texas and works in military intelligence,
acknowledged that his mother had illegally entered the country but called
her removal “completely unnecessary.”

“Her as a responsible mother did what any mother in her situation
would do and came back to care for her children by any means,” he
said. “A country that was founded on immigrants should be welcoming
to my mother, who her whole life has been an outstanding citizen.”

Occasionally you learn of some murderer or rapist, or other felony criminal, who managed to elude the police, get an assumed identity, and turn out to have wives, children, businesses with employers, are a stellar part of their community.

And oddly, when we catch up with them, we do not bemoan their justice.

Which makes it even more annoying when someone breaks the law and thinks they are entitled, because each illegal brings more pressure on the system, making legal cases take longer.

That is a long time. Anything special about her case? Was she ever out of status (shouldn’t matter unless she entered uninspected). It seems like it should be a straightforward I-130/I-485 combo application. Should have been done in 7-10 months.

Good for you that you didn’t pander to him and speak Spanish. Are you sure he can’t speak our language?

One day I was at the police department filling out some forms. In the next room was an Asian guy and his friends. He had apparently assaulted his girlfriend and was being charged. When the police were in asking him questions he never answered any questions and his friends claimed he didn’t speak English. When the police weren’t in the room he spoke perfect English. These illegals understand much of the language spoken around them.
