Britain Backs Trump On Iran, Deploys Royal Navy To Persian Gulf
Breitbart ^ | 1-5-2020 | Kurt Zindulka

The United Kingdom defended the actions of the Trump administration in Iran, saying the United States is “entitled to defend itself” against Iranian aggression and deploying the Royal Navy to the Persian Gulf to protect shipping vessels flying the British flag.

The Secretary of State for Defence, Ben Wallace, expressed support for America’s decision to take out Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Qasem Soleimani, citing the violence committed in Iraq by Iran-backed militias.

“During the last few months U.S. forces in Iraq, who are based in Iraq at the invitation of the Iraqi government, have been repeatedly attacked by Iranian-backed militia”, Wallace said, in comments reported by The Telegraph.

“General Soleimani has been at the heart of the use of proxies to undermine neighbouring sovereign nations and target Iran’s enemies. Under international law the United States is entitled to defend itself against those posing an imminent threat to their citizens”, the Defence Secretary concluded.

In response to escalating tensions after the death of Soleimani, the United Kingdom has deployed the Royal Navy to the Strait of Hormuz, to protect British shipping vessels in the Persian Gulf from retaliatory strikes from Iran.

Royal Navy warships have not patrolled the strait since November, when the navy had been protecting British ships after Iran seized a British-flagged oil tanker, the Stena Impero, in July of last year. The ship was finally released by Iran in September.

Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary Dominic Raab, speaking today to the BBC, also defended the killing of Soleimani.

“My view is — and the operational assessment has been done by the Americans — is that there is a right of self-defence,” Raab said.

1) The Japanese would get it right. Look at the Toyotas. Mitsubishi makes their tanks. Th best in the world. Believe it. 2) The Brits should be given the job of taking out their Navy. That’s 2 of us. Can Iran count on the Chicoms/Russians?

Oil is fungible. We also export a large amount of oil now, too.

The modern Japanese navy is much more powerful than the Royal Navy. And it’s Lexus quality and pretty doubtful they would surrender to a motor launch the way the Brits did.

Yeah, Japan has warships. More than the Royal Navy. Significantly more.

List of active ships of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force is a list of ships in active service with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. The JMSDF is one of the world’s largest navies and the second largest navy in Asia in terms of fleet tonnage.[1] As of 2016, the JMSDF operates a total of 155 vessels (including minor auxiliary vessels), including; four helicopter destroyers (or helicopter carriers), 26 destroyers, 10 small destroyers (or frigates), six destroyer escorts (or corvettes), 19 attack submarines, 30 mine countermeasure vessels, six patrol vessels, three landing ship tanks, 8 training vessels and a fleet of various auxiliary ships.[2][3]

As of 2013, a procurement list added to the current National Defense Program Guidelines (NDPG) has revealed that, among other things, an additional 48 escort vessels of various classes are planned to be added to the MSDF fleet in the coming decade.[4] In addition, as of 7 July 2013, it was being reported that plans were under way to procure two more Aegis equipped destroyers in order to bolster ongoing BMD efforts, the first to be contracted for in fiscal year 2015 and the other in fiscal year 2016.[5]

Prime Minister Johnson is Britain’s Trump. No way he would disagree with his American counterpart’s decision.

Guess the Lymies now forgive us for what happened at Yorktown and Bunker Hill.

The Brits have been over that since at least when we entered World War I.

My thoughts exactly; what does Britain have left to deploy? There are probably more surface vessels available from Italy or Spain.

The Brits could no longer pull off the Falklands war. Utterly not possible. No fixed wing carrier aircraft operations for 15 years. No long range strategic bombers, and the Navy is a bare shadow of the one in the early 80s.

Can the Brits defend the Falklands? Give it to us and make it a penal colony. The inmates can have unlimited sex with the sheep. Give it to Argentina after 99 years on the condition that Argentines staff the ‘prison’.

My understanding is that they don’t have a word for “surrender” in their vocabulary. During an engagement in WWII a commander had to order “Turn around, and advance . . . “
