What does Gen. Qassem Soleimani and Generalissimo Francisco Franco have in common?

I guess the writer doesn’t care a fig about Israel.

The Middle East is where great nations go to die. JMHO!

Last night I heard a report that the Iraqi ambassador to the UN was pooh-poohing the idea that this hooligan/monster/terrorist could have been responsible for everything evil that’s being said about him. “He just wasn’t that powerful” (paraphrasing) - he COULDN’T have reached all the way to a restaurant in DC - that was a preposterous notion...These low life cretins would make good democrats!

These days in New York and D.C., it’s all the rage to claim our every move away from unending war benefits our enemies. The reality, of course, is that unending American war in the Middle East drains our coffers, military strength, and political will, all to the glory of Moscow and our true enemies in Beijing. “Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman and uncondemned?”

Trump's established Pax Americana - hands off our people - and Iran better know it... Next time it will be Mullahs...

Only problem I see is that the guy was 62 and nearing retirement. Would have been nice to have also taken out some others in his chain of command.

And 0bama implanted thousands of like-minded islamists all over the USA. Europe did the same to itself, only more of it.

Iraqi Shiite voters put these people in power. No two ways about it. We lucked into a situation where only 20% of the Iraqi population, the Kurds, likes us, but are almost as corrupt and incompetent as the rest of Iraq.

People with a "calling" such as him seldom retire.

He was doing what he liked to do.

Good riddance.

Would like to get out of Iraq myself, but I can’t see any wisdom in abandoning Iraq to an evil Iranian regime; just not a reasonable alternative. If we leave that vacuum, we will have to go back. It is particularly unfortunate now that sanctions have them reeling, which is why they are striking out at us.

I say stay a little longer, keep the sanctions up, take out some more Iranian military and leader figures, and let the people of Iran do the rest.

I guess the writer doesn’t care a fig about Israel.

He never even mentioned Israel.

Israel is perfectly capable of defending itself without having the U.S. piss away thousands of lives and trillions of dollars as a mercenary force for Sunni Islamic royal families all over that cursed part of the world.

We are already essentially out of Iraq except for a hand full of troops and it is not in US interests to abandon our embassy in Iraq at this time.

So far as I know, Iraq has never submitted a formal request for removal of all troops.

... Since his inauguration, President Trump has killed the leader of ISIS, and now the Iranian general responsible for hundreds of American dead. He’s done a great deal to clean up the mess his predecessors left him in Iraq and Syria. Now it is time to disengage.

I am in great sympathy with this

“If we leave that vacuum, we will have to go back.”

I don’t doubt you but in the biggest of pictures, why do we need to exercise control in the Middle East?

We’d have to go back for what reason?

We should have done regime change in Iran, not Iraq.
