Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., called into "Your World with Neil Cavuto" Friday to discuss the deadly airstrike that killed Iranian general Qassem Soleimani in Iraq, saying he fears an "escalation" between the U.S. and Iran.
"I think without a declaration of war, without Congress and the American people behind it, what you get is a messy mission. You get a mission of escalating intermittent violence," Paul told Cavuto. "The president said he didn't want perpetual war in the Middle East. But he's adding more and more troops. If you don't want perpetual war, you don't keep sending more targets over there."
Paul believes it is more likely that "Iran, their militias and their proxies will attack the U.S." following the death of Soleimani.
President Trump accused the Iranian general of planning imminent and sinister attacks Friday in his first televised remarks since the airstrike that killed the general at Baghdad's international airport.
"We took action last night to stop a war, Trump said during brief remarks at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. We did not take action to start a war.
Paul argued that that the airstrike signals the "death of diplomacy" with Iran and that they will feel the need to retaliate.
"It's hard to imagine that the Iranians are going to shrink now and say, 'Oh, you killed our leading general, who's been a leader in our country for 20 years, and we're going to do nothing,'" Paul said. "I also think with the death of Soleimani, you have the death of diplomacy. I don't think there's any chance that Iran will speak to us again on diplomacy."
Cavuto asked Paul what his "biggest fear" was about the situation.
"I think, that there will be an escalation, that there will be a war with Iran," Paul responded.

In order for there to be an all out war then they would have to send an invasion force here or else we would have to send thousands of troops there. They don’t have the means, and we are not going to wage a mass war against their country unless Iran does something really stupid like commit a mass terrorism attack. If they do something crazy like set off a Nuke then all bets are off.
Happy 1st anniversary.
I take issue with that. Trump probably revived diplomacy in the Middle East. So long as the party on the other side of the table is pretty sure you won’t play rough with them, why do they need to negotiate honestly??? If they think that you just might lob a missile in on top of them, that encourages the urgency of negotiation and a more earnest discussion.
These politicians wring their hands so much it’s a wonder they have any hands left. . . .
“Paul believes it is more likely that “Iran, their militias and their proxies will attack the U.S.” following the death of Soleimani.”
You mean like they did on our embassy a few days ago?
Islam has been at war with the rest of humanity since 622 A.D.
With the USA, only since 7/4/1776.
wonder not one
Rand Paul is and always has been a c**t.
I am so thankful that most of the hand wringers in congress today that are spouting off this fear porn were not there when the Japanese hit Pearl Harbor. We all would be speaking either German or Japanese right now.
“It’s hard to imagine that the Iranians are going to shrink now....
We’ll see. The ranians are spread thin over there in Syria, Yemen, and Iraq. They spent all the billions 0 gave them. Their economy is on the ropes and the public is in open rebellion. If we were going to off this trash, now seems to have been a good time to do it.
A cyber attack against the US is rumored but I think we can defend that. Also it might give us a good pretext to take out their centrifuges.
Rand “The Pussy” Paul.
He talks big, but he never has any guts to support his country. I suspect if he were ever president that he would make Obama’s apology tour seem real short.
Sounds like good news. Diplomacy-in-the-Middle-East is just a nice way of saying "profits for the military-industrial complex into perpetuity."
Our President Trump is interested in solving problems for real.
You dont negotiate peace until the other side gives up. Kill the leaders and the replacements give up. If they dont, they need new replacements. Play the game a little while youll get to some that want to talk. This aint chess or checkers. This is for good. We can get you to your virgin goat herd just call the ball.
In his defense, Senator Paul was suffering from severe menstrual cramps when he said that.
I don’t care if Iran speaks to us diplomatically ever again. They are lying scum and not worth the air they breathe. (leaders not people)
They only understand muzzles diplomacy and they just got to experience being on the receiving end.
That's what has the Saudis in an uproar. Rumor has it they've already bought a nuke from Pakistan. IOW a launch on the Saudi's will draw a launch on Tehran from Pakistan.
No it’s not, Randster. Trump is engaging in “Gunboat Diplomacy.”
Diplomacy may be dead but so is Qassem Soleimani!
Libertarians can be Utopians, acting if just because everyone ought to have Liberty, that everyone does, even those living under the Mullahs of Tehran or under other forms of dictatorship, and thus they will not defend what is necessary to defending our own way of life infused as it is with our Liberty. So, when other’s attack us overseas, to them that has nothing to do with OUR Liberty. They are wrong.
Hey Rand, Do you remember when those peaceful Iranians seized our embassy in Tehran in 1979? Cut the crap. An assault on the American embassy, regardless of what country it is in, is an attack on the United States. And the US should respond with an astounding show of force. Don’t f*$% with the USA.
