Once the white female or male candidate is selected by the Dems, the candidate will go to the ethnic bench to fill the VP slot. Harris, Castro, Yang, and Booker ran for the big job in order to be in the consideration set for the consolation (VP) prize.
Probably some very solid truth to that.

Harris and Booker thought they could win. I’m not sure what value they add to Biden.
Castro was and is definitely looking for the VP spot, and could be compelling for Warren. I don’t see Biden or Sanders able to nominate a man.
Yang’s run was an attention grab. Will be interesting to see what he does with that attention.
