Reuters is incorrect here, these are not “Supporters of Iranian-backed Iraqi paramilitary groups”, they ARE paramilitary groups, and if the opportunity presented itself, they would have seized the embassy.
I predicted this yesterday, when the additional embassy reinforcements were announced:
“My guess is the “protesters” with ties to Iran backed militias will probable bail, as they don’t want to be captured, interrogated and imprisoned.”
I suspect these theatrics were more of a Soros encouraged New Years news grabber than an purely Iranian strategy thing.
