They’re not being held hostage. They are pretty much one in the same.
This will make your head spin. PMF was founded by Nouri al Malaki, former PM of Iraq. It has since come under PM Prime Minister Al-Abadi and now PM Adil Abdul-Mahdi. They all have strong ties to Iran. Basically, PMF/PMC are Qods force/IRGC.

Pretty much the only thing keeping the embassy staff safe is the prime minister’s knowledge that there’s a potential JDAM with his name on it if he lets dozens of Americans get killed. That his family would die with him is the real bonus.

Easier said than done. Regime change should have been our policy since Khomeini took over in 1979. I was in Iran during the fall of the Shah and the overrunning of our Embassy the first time on February 14, 1979.

The U.S. tried “regime change” in Iran when the Mossadegh government was overthrown in the 1950s. That lasted for about 25 years before the Iranians toppled the Shah and threw his ass out.
