As the author points out, there is always talk of a brokered convention, but it never materializes because both parties know it would damage the eventual nominee.
It is better to cut the backroom deals earlier in the process than after there is no clear winner.
The entire strategy of Skunk Cabbage is for the convention to be brokered, and the she rides in on her white stallion, on to the convention floor, and SAVES THE DAY by agreeing to be the nominee. But first she has to make sure no one wins on the first ballot, and that’s why we now see Bloomberg in the race, and that’s why Bloomberg went to where no other candidate could go, which was to (correctly) state outright that Biden isn’t capable of running the country.
We’ll see how the strategy works, but one thing for sure, Skunk Cabbage is not about to go through the primary process again - she considers herself to be WAY above that garbage.

What difference does it make what theatrics they pull at their convention? The “super delegates” will choose their nominee.

contested convention is always possible and highly unlikely ever because conventions are controlled by the DNC and RNC, the Republicans to a lesser extent. If there is a “contest” it will be orchestrated as a show that produces the DNC’s annointed. We will know who the winner will be before the fireworks video.
Cannot understand the Dem candidates who dropped out before 1 vote was counted. Even Kammy Harris could have stayed in and not campaigned or spent any money.
I know it is hard for us to believe (I have trouble believing it!) but the poll numbers say Biden is the front-runner and should get the nomination.
After Super Tuesday if he has a substantial delegate lead, fuggedaboudit.
