That assumes that these voters are rational, and, by definition, those who vote for socialism are irrational. However, a good, hard push by Trump may break through that demographic barrier. Marketing is everything when it comes to reaching low-information voters. Imagine 25% of democrat voters flipping and going GOP in 2020!
Blacks represent 13-14% of the US Population.
The DNC represents 35% of the Population; the percentage of Blacks voting DNC is around 94%...
Black Votes alone represent 35-40% of the DNC voters.
If trump gets over 18% of the Black vote in Mid-West States he will win them all hands down - OH, IN, MI, MN, IN, WI, KY, TN.
25% of the Black would destroy the DNC.

More would be great. But if he does draw 20%, he wins hands down.And if that 20% is of a reduced Democrat turnout, that’s better than 20% of a higher turnout. And you might expect that a low Democrat turnout would come easier than sudden conversion of 20% of a high turnout.
You might be underwhelmed, but I would be congratulating blacks in general for having attained political competitiveness - so that the Democrats can’t take their vote for granted while paying off the teachers’ unions and doing bupkis for the children of black voters.
If blacks show some independence, both parties will respond more to them. You and I might worry about their effect on the Republican Party (considering them overwhelmingly liberal) but to the extent that a substantial fraction of them transcend that image, both parties will be caused to improve.

20% of 12% is 2.4% of the total votes. Add that to Trump's 2016 results and you get a landslide.
Democrats must get 90% of the black vote to win. 80% won't cut it.

On the flip side, every new Black vote he garners is a twofer - one more for him and one less for the Dem.
