Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg has been fired, the company announced Monday morning.
David Calhoun was named new CEO.
CFO Greg Smith will serve as interim CEO until Calhoun takes on the role on Jan. 13.
With the "new leadership," Boeing said in a statement, the company "will operate with a renewed commitment to full transparency, including effective and proactive communication with the FAA, other global regulators and its customers."
Muilenburg's ousting comes days after the Boeing Starliners failed mission to the International Space Station.

He gets a free Flight home on a 737 MAX.
Dennis was a politician from his first day at Boeing. He was obsessed with climbing the corporate ladder so all he did was play politics. He nearly destroyed Boeing in the process.
Move the headquarters to the same building as the engineering department.
Just a suggestion.
Saw what seemed like a summary of the problem: The 787 MAX was different enough in behavior than other 737s that Boeing should have and didn’t provide the necessary pilot training.
It appears that no customers have cancelled orders for the plane.
That’s not a Starliner, it’s an Apollo capsule.
Too early. I heard in Russia they are discussing a ban on export of titanium to US and to sanction their companies from Boeing’s trade. That could halt 777 and 787 production for at least 11 months and would cost Boeing billions to replace Russian imports. On top of Max troubles probably it would be the last straw.
“He gets a free Flight home on a 737 MAX.”
He gets to be solo pilot.
With only one AOA sensor.
And the old software.
Good luck, buttwipe.
This move is way too late.
After the 737Max and the Starliner screw up, someone has to be sent packing. The CEO is the top choice, but it is a culture issue I suspect internally at Boeing. They need to get lean and mean, and smarter.
I’d start with getting a really clear look at the Engineering side. Going to be hard, because if they are “protected quota people” they can’t be canned.
You should do a blind ranking of the teams and cull out folks. I’m afraid you can’t actually do this anymore without the Racist and Sexist lawsuits.
Agreed
That 737 Max has been a disaster for Boeing, but I would not call them down and out yet. Their 787 is in a good spot to dominate the long haul international market with the decision by Airbus to cancel the A380. Both great airplanes but what happened to domestic here is happening to international. Carriers are choosing shorter, hub based routes. Routes the A330 and the 767 and 737 can deliver on. For those long haul non-stops the 787 Dreamliner is a terrific airline for. I think for the next 20+ years, development of the super jumbo as a platform is dead.
The move to Chicago signaled stupidity...
Im sure he received a handsome assortment of parting gifts. It is all contractual.
“Id start with getting a really clear look at the Engineering side. Going to be hard, because if they are protected quota people they cant be canned.”
On one hand, Boeing now has their engineering reporting structure, but on the other hand, their new BGS CEO started his introduction speech with a presentation titled “I am diversity”. A man born in the US claimed to be ‘African’ because he is black.
He gets a free Flight home on a 737 MAX.
...
That would be several times safer than driving a car, and just as safe as any other airliner provided the pilots and maintenance are competent.
“I heard in Russia they are discussing a ban on export of titanium to US”
Good, we deserve it, given the way we’ve treated Russia, especially in Hillary’s day.

Nobody says they are indispensable. But the idea is that not only Russia is the biggest sort of titanium. They also have the most expertise working on it. Not only the titanium parts in Boeing planes are made out of Russian titanium, they are designed and built in Russia as well. To think out how to get the raw material and to figure out building highly specialized parts to decent quality is a problem Boeing doesn’t need right now.
