Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but in Clintons trial, there were 3 witnesses, but all the Senate saw was videotaped excerpts of closed-door depositions.

Monica, Vernon and Sid Vicious

Don’t expect any live witnesses this time around. It’d be gambling that you don’t lose control of the situation and make things worse.

Which is what Dems want

The Dems impeachment efforts are a bust. Schumer is throwing a Hail Mary pass, hoping for a miracle. Otherwise they lose.

I’m pretty sure the three witnesses in the Senate trial back in 1999 were people who had all testified during the House proceedings, and were simply brought back during the trial to give depositions so the Senate lawyers could question them.

Yes. The most likely outcome is no “circus testimony” like what we saw in the House. The Clinton format will be followed, and witnesses will be deposed on video. The question is, will McConnell allow “new” witnesses? During Clinton’s impeachment, they deposed witnesses who had already testified to the Special Prosecutor or the House, provided sworn affidavits, testified in other cases, etc. There were no new witnesses.

Correct. The senate trial started on Jan 7, and that was the formal reading of the articles by the managers. Not until 25 Jan did the senate hear motions for dismissal and the next day a motion was heard, (and passed), to have witnesses. the witnesses were interviewed and video taped in private and then in Feb their testimony was played to the senate, but only portions of their testimony was played.
