“” “” Someone explain to me why this is our concern? If the Europeans want to set themselves up for Russian blackmail, so be it. If US distributors can’t compete price wise is this due to EU anti American tariffs or simply Russian proximity to the market?”” “”

Now that’s funny. It is certainly looking like blackmail but it is obviously not Russian.
And if you want that badly for US to sell gas to Europe petition the government to raise taxes so they can subsidize exporters to the tune of $100 billions annually.
Empire is never cheap.

I’m guessing the Russians won’t be using any pipeline control software from Canada again?

Sanctioning a Swiss pipeline company for building a pipeline that Russia, Germany & other European nations want is what John McCain wanted. It weakens US influence in the world.

It looks like McCain and Trump are/were on the same page to me. Its affect on the sacred petrodollar is what is worrisome to the protectors of the fragile dollar bill.

-------------------------------------------------------------

"Germany, backed by France and Austria, has billed the project led by Russia's Gazprom as a way to ensure stable and lower-cost energy.

US lawmakers led by the late senator John McCain passed legislation opening the path to sanctions against investors in the pipeline, although the ultimate decision lies with President Donald Trump."

Bingo. First it was Iraq, South Africa, Iran and and nobody cared. Now it is Russia, China, Germany, France, Switzerland and literally everyone doing anything someone in Congress for some reason doesn’t like. And the reasons are more often a cover for vested interests than not.

Just think for how long US would last not only as a superpower but as any relevant entity once the rest of the World would ditch US-based monetary instruments for international trade?

In ten more years of such policies the most pressing issue for UN would be to curb the flow of refugees from US and securing American WMD.

And that’s by the way a reciprocal act by Russian companies to suffocate related operations in US. With US company involved on the Russian side no less.
Gazprom said more than once that US frackers might have Americas and East Asia for themselves given they would stop lobby Congress to sabotage Russian operations in their traditional markets. I believe it is not on table anymore and guess who has an upper hand.

If the Europeans want to buy Russian gas why should we care? This is ridiculous to me. Makes as much sense as the Russians boycotting companies building the Dakota Access Pipeline. Now that Trump has rolled back US regulations, American energy doesn’t need help to compete anywhere in the world.

Not boycotting but grabbing assets.

there is much I agree with Trmp

Not this

Leave this be

If the issue is where the Nato companies purchase their energy, hell, leave Nato.

Wont break my heart.

When Putin decides one day to shut off the juice to Europe, whose cavalry do you suppose Merckle will expect to see riding in over the hill to turn it back on?

We also have lots of cheap gas that can benefit them and us, and keep the cash out of Putin's pocket in the meantime.

When Putin shuts it off, American energy will ride to the rescue, at their price. Personally, I’ve had it with trying to cure Eurostupidity. That malady is terminal.

Germany and the EU won’t enforce third party American sanctions against Russia.

Worst that will happen is the heads of targeted companies can’t obtain American visas, financial and logistical assistance for the pipeline project.

They have ways around It and it will only hurt American businesses.

Well...your scenario didn’t count on a Biden shutting off American energy...
