The House impeachment of President Trump is only a day old and it has already moved from folly to farce. Speaker Nancy Pelosi is now threatening to withhold the articles of impeachment that Democrats just passed until the Senate sets trial terms that she and her left-wing faction deem adequate.
“We cannot name managers until we see what the process is on the Senate side,” Mrs. Pelosi said Wednesday night after the impeachment vote, referring to the House Members who would present the case for removal to the Senate. “So far we haven’t seen anything that looks fair to us.”
The Constitution gives the House “the sole power of impeachment.” It also gives the Senate “the sole power to try all impeachments.” Mrs. Pelosi nonetheless wants to use the articles the House has passed as leverage to force the Senate to do what she wants. The idea was floated this week by Harvard Professor Laurence Tribe and has been picked up on the left, apparently as a way to discomfit Senate Republicans.
This further trivializes the impeachment power that the Pelosi Democrats have already done so much to diminish. The House raced to an impeachment vote to please swing-district Members who wanted it over before Christmas. Democrats barred GOP witnesses and truncated questioning. Rep. Adam Schiff even said speed was essential and the House couldn’t wait for court rulings on witnesses, lest Mr. Trump steal the 2020 election.
But now Mrs. Pelosi says speed isn’t essential because Senate Republicans might not hold the kind of trial she wants. She is running interference for Chuck Schumer, the Senate Democratic leader, who is demanding that the Senate call witnesses the House refused to call.

Just a guess, I’ll bet McConnell cares as much what the WSJ thinks as he does what Nanzi Pelozi thinks.
The only thing Pelosi was going to get out of the deal was impeachment, she has it, anything else will be a detriment to her. She has no reason to proceed.
I'm no lawyer, but even I know that would never fly constitutionally.
They can't make the House do anything. What they can do is enact a rule declaring that in the eyes of the Senate, articles of impeachment have a shelf life.

McConnell should tell her until she sends articles of impeachment to Senate, there is nothing to discuss and
move on to other Senate business.
Yep. When the use-by-date is up the House must re-do their hearings and write fresh articles.
Let Pelozi choke on that idea.

The Constitution only specifies that the Senate is the sole trier of impeachment. It does not specify that members of the House of Representatives have to be the prosecution managers in the trial.
Mark Levin said tonight that the Senate needs to declare this null and void and move on. She has no right to dictate to the Senate what she wants done. This woman needs to be stopped now.
I think the issue is the senate rules say the articles have to be transmitted to them, and house managers assigned. Someone said it would take 2/3rd to change those rules. So not sure....
I heard McConnell say the senate was coming back Jan 3rd, and rules would be voted on Jan 6th. Sounds like he and Chuckie met today. Hope McConnell doesnt cave. The senate can’t call those witnesses and compel them to testify any more than the house could. Trump and executive privilege. Dems didnt want to wait on the courts, so they didnt try. So all this is just more Shamwow by the Dems!
Whether or not Democrats appoint managers and take up the case, McTurtle is ready to dismiss the case and acquit the President.

Nancy is just trying to stall to keep the Democrat leaders out of prison.
She is willing to destroy the Democrat Party and put our nation through the ringer to keep her and her kid out of prison.
Her sentence should reflect this.
