Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell set the stage Thursday for a potentially bruising fight between the leadership of the two chambers over impeachment, as he tore into Nancy Pelosi for shoddy work and said Democrats may be too afraid to send the articles to the Senate after the House speaker abruptly held off on transmitting them.
This particular House of Representatives has let its partisan rage at this particular president create a toxic new precedent that will echo well into the future, McConnell said on the floor, accusing Democrats of giving in to "temptation" with their impeachment vote while challenging their handling of the articles in the aftermath.

How is “not transmitting” even an option?
McConnell needs to shut this shite down NOW
The House does not have the right the hold a permanent pocket impeachment of a President and dangle it every time it wants to make a point
THIS is absolutely unconstitutional and Mitch needs to end this now
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell gave an excellent presentation with this speech.
On the flip side, what happens if they wait until the GOP takes over the house?”
When that happens, even if Mitch has dispensed with the “articles”, the House should still “unimpeach” Trump - something akin to a Presidential pardon as it were
for the historical record
He's said all he needs to say for now. The ball is in the House's court. Them and their extention in the Senate, Schumer.
The Senate will formally deal with the articles when the House walks them over. A majority of the senate can modify the impeachment rules. Go nuclear, no cloture, no minority veto, etc.
It is interesting, in that both the Senate and POTUS have institutional interest in this Pelosi-triggered constitutional crisis.
If Nadless can delay the application of normal House rules when it suits him, why doesnt McConnell just change the Senate rules and go ahead and dismiss the charges in advance of receiving them?
Just deem them as received, vote and be done with it.
BUMP!
The VERY scary idea is that these same people make decisions that directly affect our daily lives (now and in the future). Do you want a mob rule group of people who run roughshod over liberties controlling your lives?
yes, excellent post
Schumer was saying that large amounts of legislation are, and have been, sitting in the Senate but McConnell has refused to move the legislation forward. Whats that about, if anyone here knows?
I think she's proven by her past actions that she doesn't care. If Mitch doesn't hold to procedure (he doesn't need her to walk over the papers), he's just letting her run the show and do what she wants.
There is no such thing as abuse of Congress. Every veto, every push back would otherwise qualify.
There are due process and Constitutional rights, which were all denied to the President
The definition of tyranny
Impeachment Interuptus by Dems in the Senate, for 5 more years!
Mitch has to stay out in front of the Dems on this or he could be steamrolled, with the media running interference and narratives created. Pelosi and her goons may be waiting for favorable court rulings on certain things, or to get a look at the president’s tax returns to search for any financial improprieties.
A fishing expedition that’s been going on for three years with no end in sight. Put a stop to it NOW. They’ve passed the Articles, now start the trial in the Senate, or issue a summary acquittal if the Dems refuse to play by the rules.
Where’s the media? I mean if our side tried to pull this crap, it would be non stop 24/7 coverage.
Isn’t there one, just one honest reporter at the NY TiMes, Post or CNN etc who can speak up on this travesty?
Man, our schools obviously don’t teach civics, and the Democratic House of Representatives are sorely in need of a class on it.
In fact, after this, I’d say anyone who enters the House or Senate must take a course on the constitution and the founding our country.
Hypocrisy, Pelosi is thy name.
One Senator who spoke on Fox this morning said it was unconstitutional for Palosi to not pass the articles of impeachment to the Senate.
Yes, this has been enjoyable to see so many really smart, articulate gutsy GOPers out there fighting, save of course, for Romney who likes to play by the Marcus of Queensberry Rules.
The Senate should adopt a new rule that they will accept articles of impeachment only once during each session of Congress and that they will only accept articles within one month of passage in the House. The Senate sets its own rules. Pelosi sitting in judgement on the conduct of the Senate in its own rules is laughable, like the rest of this fiasco.
not offhand, but any trash bill that the commie-run house sends over to the Senate can be ignored by the Majority Leader in the Senate. In other words, it dies, as the Senate is not obligated to take up anything it does not want to.
probably has something to do with that.
Well, after actually listening to what McConnell said, I think he just shot out the tires on the Demonrat’s Impeachment bus.
