I am tempted to question the wisdom of having
a government run by “We The People”.

But any alternative would only be worse.

This all dies in the Senate.

Don't count on it. Ruthie Ginsberg held up a ruling on Trump's tax returns for a DEMON RAT reason. What is in the returns is irrelevant, it is a talking point that holds huge power to promote chaos even more than the demon rats have already created. Watch for the issue in the Senate, or perhaps being touted by the enemy (media) over the holidays, to create a bomb lie at or in the Senate trail.
